°○°●Red Like Roses●°○°
Somewhere in Europe: It was a quiet little village somewhere off the beaten path, home to folks who'd grown up together for years, everybody knew everybody, and that's the way it'd always been, nothing strange would happen without anyone knowing. Tonight was their festival and it was celebrated with lanterns and roses. These roses were known for their beautiful, unique shade of red which was similar to blood. Once a year, the village would gather together in the town square where they would sell roses, fruits, vegetables, or trinkets. The festival brought in tourists, tourists brought in revenue, and revenue brought in trouble. Everyone was too far away, music too loud, no one heard the shrill cry of a young woman as her life came to an end. No one could hear it ...no one living anyway.
Penelope stops short as she hears the tell-tale shriek of death. She narrows her eyes and bows her head. Poor girl... Penelope looks up at the cloudy sky to search for the light of an almost invisible moon. 'Hopefully her passing was quick.' She scrunched her face. 'If only.' Penelope turned away from the cry to walk to the festival, "retrieving" death was no longer her business, she dealt it instead now. But everyone needed to rest and that is what she planned on doing. The festival was not too far away. She heads down an alleyway towards the bright lights of the towns square. Sometimes being dead had its perks after all.

Aside from the reap, there was definitely something going on in the nearby town. Owen stood over the dead body of the woman, letting the ends of the thread he'd just cut slip away. She'd fallen some height, unlucky. Kind of like himself, he thought. There were roses in her hands, and it matched the rush of blood below her head on the grass. There was a basket as well, as if she had been collecting them. Owen wasn't sure if he should leave them alone, or deliver them on behalf of her. Though upon further thought, he decided to leave them alone.
Though the smell of floral blood was a fascinating combination...
He head towards the town, curious as to what the festivities was. He'd seen more people around there with roses too, before he had to follow this woman into the outskirts to her death. The night lights were bright in the otherwise dark world. Perhaps he'd find out more about what she was doing all the way out here...

If Penelope was still bothered by the woman's death cry you would have never known it. She'd started to blend into the crowd. She wore a blue linen medium sleeved dress to help shield her from the night winds, a long wig and deep brown boots. She looked at each stall carefully and smiled at every person who spoke to her. A young man offered her a dozen roses as a welcoming gesture, she took them without complaint and actually felt happy? Maybe, maybe for sure? Hard to tell really. Were they laughing at her? She felt a little overwhelmed... she needed to sit down. Penelope retreated away from the party having found a seat that was a pretty decent distance away from all the bright lights and noise. Penelope took this moment to breathe. Her body felt light and if it wasn't for something heavy in the middle of her chest she might have just floated away. Penelope dug her nose into the roses and breathed in their smell.
'Just stay calm it's alright, it's alright.'

Town was populated, and amongst the crowd of humans, Owen was unnoticed. He liked that about being dead. He was wearing his usual reaping clothes, outdated vest, oversized shirt and all. No one so much as batted an eyelash at him.
People offered roses as he walked past. He just took them as to avoid a fuss with them by saying no. He probably shouldn't stay out here too long. Who knows who was out here... It was fairly populated at the moment so he would be fine in a crowd, he thought. Either way, birds were nearby. He could call one and leave whenever he liked. Owen took a quick look at his phone again, staring almost eye to screen at the bright light, checking to see if there was much else he had to do here. Apparently not. Nothing new came up. He could stay here for a little while...

Penelope had calmed down and was now walking the festival grounds for something to eat when a gust of wind picked up. It shook some of the petals of her bouquet loose and a rose as well. Penelope tries to grab for it but it slips past her fingers and lands gracefully on the ground next to a young man's feet. She holds up her dress as she rushes to it. "Excuse me." She mumbles as she picks the rose off the ground to put it back into her bouquet.

The wind squeezed through the crowds of people. Beside him, he heard a voice. Someone dropped a rose by his feet. Owen seemed to react slowly, turning around much later after the woman who appeared had returned it to her bouquet.
"Oh..." he said. "W... Why are you here?" he asked, noticing she lacked a thread. Was she safe to approach? He seemed to tense up a little. Her voice sounded familiar.

Penelope had put the rose back into the bouquet when the boy (?) spoke to her. "I'm sorry?" She tilts her head a bit while taking a step back. "Do I... know you?" 'We've been compromised. Kill him.' Penelope keeps a calm head as she looks at him again. "Have we meet before?"
'...Yes, where did we meet before?'

"I don't know..." Owen thought about it. He probably didn't get her name.... or maybe he did, he tended to forget things like that. "But I think I know your voice." He didn't forget voices. And she sounded awfully familiar. "So you don't know me?"

Penelope tilts her head again and studies the young boy's face. "I'm afraid not." She pushes a small piece of hair behind her ear. She squints to focus (not that he could tell the difference). No thread... 'The Festival, he spoke to us at the medical booth.' So that's what is was. She'd goofed, she'd let her natural voice come through because she didn't think of running into an Apprentice, didn't think they'd come to the festival so Penelope thought she'd be safe. A mistake it seems. She moves the bouquet of flowers from her dominant hand to the other, ready to pull out a blade she'd hidden in her skirt, her hat would take too much time to retrieve and she would need to be quick... She could kill him. She could... She... could... Penelope puts her hand back over the bouquet of roses and pulls a rose out, the same one that fell at his feet, and gives him a tender smile. "Not that it matters now I suppose. Here. This rose came to you for a reason and I'm not one to mess with Fate." 'Gag me with a spoon.' She holds it out for him to take. "It's not much but at least it's in the spirit of things."

Ah, she didn't seem to remember either. Not that it mattered. She seemed friendly, but he could never be sure. He'd been told to be more cautious lately after all.
"Thank you..." He said almost as if it was rehearsed. He took the rose from her and brought it to his nose. It was fragrant, and the same scene lingered through the rest of the town. Roses everywhere. It was somehow beautiful to see so many at once.

Penelope's smile still remained on her face even as she stepped back from him to walk away. "Even if we'd meet before or not It was nice to meet you now. Enjoy the festival, um..." She lets her eyes drift to the side. "Mister? Young man? Ha, I actually don't know what to call you. I'm sure you're older than me time wise but younger appearance wise. Funny how that works out. Look at me rambling." She holds onto the bouquet tighter a bit flustered. "I'm going to go before I make a fool of myself. Still gotta eat." She backs away into the crowd. "It really was nice to meet you...Mister? Oh gosh just stop girl." She gathers her skirt and begins to walk away to buy food, mumbling about the differences between a Senior and a Junior in Death's HQ.

See sure seemed to like to talk a lot. Owen didn't really care. He wasn't one to speak much anyway so at least she would have herself many chances to say things.
He wouldn't know much about her age, but in death, nothing was easily proven with a look. "I am Owen." He said plainly to her. "I died in 1863." He said to answer her, but it seemed to come off as an introduction greeting. He followed on after her. "Who are you?"

She nearly jumped out of her skin. "Ha?" She quickly turns around surprised to see him following her even more-so at the fact that he was talking to her. She fidgets with the bouquet for a moment. "Dezolina... but my friends call me Dez, pfft or they would if I had any." She snorts a chuckle. "I died in 2005. This is strangely starting to feel like an introduction Owen, you said, Owen, right? Was kinda hard to hear you over the noise."

"I said Owen." He nodded. "And you said... Dez... olina?" He tilted his head, looking at her intently. Hopefully he wouldn't forget her name. And she looked fidgety. Kinda like Sienna somehow. "Are you ok?" He wondered why.

Maybe she took it too far, coming across as jittery and she needed to bring it down.
She took a deep breath to calm herself and nods. "I'm fine it's just... I'm not even supposed to be here actually. I kinda, sorta, snuck away to be here tonight." She picks at a rose rubbing a petal between her fingers. She clutches the roses close. "I just wanted to come to this festival to see the roses. Don't tell please?"
'You don't tell and we won't have a problem. Fair compromise.' Penelope watches while 'Dez' waits for Owen's answer.
