She (both Penelope and Dez) were surprised at how willingly Owen took her hand. "O-oi boss man!" Dez lifted up her skirt as they pushed through the crowd with Dez also giving out apologies to folks they bumped into. Petals blew from all angles as the winds picked up the lose petals of the rose garden into the large crowd. It would be magical if it wasn't also obscuring her vision forcing her to hold his hand tightly so they wouldn't get separated.

Petals and the scent of them fluttered all around. They managed to get somewhat deeper into the crowd, to a more sparse area. They could start looking around now.

There seemed to be a spot no one was looking at. Perhaps it was already tried and checked out, but it was at least a blank space for them to start. "There?" he pointed.

"I'm cool with that." She walks with him to the open area to help with searching. Thank goodness this area was open so the smell wasn't overpowering.

There didn't seem to be much to find here. The break from activity was pleasant though. Owen stopped once they'd sifted the smaller pile of roses.

Dezolina was right. It seemed thoroughly checked and done. Owen didn't mind. "Maybe the roses are gone now?"

"Perhaps." She shrugs. A bell tolls off in the distance and everyone looks up with disappointment. There are a few scattered "awws" from people as they head back to the square.Dez looks at Owen. "Guess we're meant to follow?" She squeezes his hand lightly. "Come on, let's see what's up." She walks with the crowd hoping that Owen was following behind her. It wasn't too long before they were back in the 'new' towns square. The mayor was on the main stage with a bright smile on his face and his hands clasped behind his back. He patiently waits for people to crowd in, waiting for a few minutes, then speaking."I first want to thank everyone for their participation in this event as this has been the largest, and by far, the most successful Rose search we've had in the past few years. So give yourselves a hand everyone."The mayor claps loudly then the crowd follows (a bit awkwardlyat first) until the square is loud with cheers and whistles.The mayor chuckles then waves his hands."Haha, alright, alright, let's settle down."The cheering slows until it's silent again. The mayor clears his throat before resuming his speech. "This has been highly successful because we've never had a pair of winners so quickly! Knew we should have gone with six roses this year instead of four. Ah, hindsight as they say." A few people laugh. "However the rules said whoever gathered the most roses and presents them to me--huh?--oh, I didn't say that?--oops..." The mayor clears his throat nervously. "Hmm, well these roses were presented to me!" He holds up 3 roses (?). "So that makes our couple here our winners!! Let's give them a hand." He waves to the couple-- a pair of love birds--- and the crowd goes nuts with applause. Overhead tiny fireworks start to go off signaling the end of the search and the festival.---------- Dez stands there dumbfounded then let's Owen go to to pat herself down. "No, no, no!" Nothing. "Oh no.." Dez slumps.

Like a moth to a flame, Owen followed the crowd back to the square. The bell tolled through the night as the people gathered together once again.
The announcer's voice boomed through the square, and the rose hunt came to an end. Although, something was odd.
"But together it is 5 roses, isn't it?" He looked at Dezolina. They had both found one each, hadn't they? She looked very disappointed for some reason. Though watching her pat herself down... Ah, it was evident. He's seen adults do that a lot back in old Wales.
"Who took it?" He said, some anger in his voice. "They shouldn't take it..."

Dez looks like she's going to cry, there are tears swelling in her eyes. "I- I must h-have dropped it in the crowd of people on the way to the rose garden." She hiccups a few times then her breath catches. "I-*hick* I'm so sorry!" Tiny tears start rolling down her cheeks. Dez gathers her skirt and pushes through the crowd of people, heading back towards the fountain.

"D--" he called out to her as she ran off. He pushed into the crowd after her, finding her at the fountain. "It's fine..." he said, not bothered at all. He walked up to her without much apparent regard for her personal space and gave her the final white rose he'd found. He didn't need it anyway.

She was sitting on the rim of the fountain letting the tears come down her cheeks when Owen got to her. If she was bothered by his invasion of her personal space she didn't show it, nodding when he gave her the white rose. "I'm really sorry though..." She says sadly as she plucks at the petals of the rose gently. She noticed the golden ring still attached to its stem and takes it off with a sniffle. "Here." She offers it too him. "It's not much but..."

"But I don't-- okay!" She smiles at him and turns to the fountain. She drops it into the water without a second thought. "There! Now we'll always know where it is." She puts her hands on her hips. "So we can't lose it." Made sense in a way.
Overhead the fireworks are still going off. They make popping sounds as they take off and explode; their colours exploding into the sky like blooming flowers then vanishing quickly.
