Setting: Broadway, New York City. The weather is fine, and it is late afternoon.
----------
Broadway. It's been quite a while since she last came here. Her work has been keeping her in New Jersey or some other state, but rarely has it brought her back to NYC. She walks down the sidewalk at a leisurely pace, hands in her pockets and occasionally stopping to look up to the roof-lined sky. People walked by her, some jostling as they jostled everyone else. Always a person who needed to be faster than the fastest, with priorities they would consider higher than others. Amsteria's priority was as low as it can get. She was here to get some air fresheners. The room her team was in was haunted by a constant smell of strong coffee and the lingering hint of cigarette smoke. She and the team Guardian were pretty miffed by the aroma, what with the latter preferring to stay in his office rather than the room. She would end up hanging around her office herself, but at times she would be reminded about how little the team would interact if they were rarely even in a common place. Then she would get a little guilty and her manager mind would agree with that vehemently. Over the past week or so, she had opened the window regularly in hopes of clearing the room of the scent. However, the smell still lingered like some undesired aftertaste. Amsteria ran a hand through her hair as she continued to walk down the sidewalk, passing by stores and offices. People kept pouring out of the doors. Perhaps she should have come earlier, like sometime past lunch. Who am I kidding, she later reprimanded herself with a scoff, the city was always crowded with people. She saw some red threads in her passing...and moved on. She was not here on reap order. So if I took someone else's reap order, would it mess up with fate? Or maybe it would just mess the other Apprentice's ascension quota. Amsteria shrugs the thought off. After some more walking down the street, she found the place she was looking for. The 'K' sign was her target, and as much as she wanted to just walk in and get what she needed, she had to wait for someone. So she sidles up to a pillar, leans on it, and starts to watch people.

...What time did Amsteria say she was going to leave for the human world again? Joakim knew she was going to go out to grab some stuff for their room... And he DID say he wanted in on in. Now he was wondering if she heard him. It was hard to tell, what with how quiet the woman was on most occasions. Slinging his duffel bag over his shoulder, he headed down to the gardener, grabbed a chrysanthemum and off he went to this place called... Broadway.
...Good god it was crowded. It was to be expected, seeing that he's done innumerable reaping orders in various parts of America, but he still would prefer reaping in other places BUT the most crowded countries in the world. Seriously, that one time he had to carry out like, 2 or 3 reap orders in India? HELL-IN-LIMBO or something to that effect. Worse yet, there was a car crash like 10 feet away from him that time. Why didn't he get any reap orders for THOSE? And another time in China. Whole freaking buses collided with each other and he just HAD to look for that one guy on a motorbike who got squished under all the other bodies. Sometimes he wondered if Death, Fate and Fran sat down and decided to just fuck around with his reaping orders. He couldn't tell.
Rubbing his face, Joakim took a moment to take in the sights, see where it is that he landed himself in. Oh, good. He wasn't that far off from the place he wanted to go to. It should be... this huge place with a big red K on it... Ugh. The things he'd do to make the dorm slightly more habitable for him. Honestly, he knew of places that reeked worse than their dorm, but the combination of strong coffee and day-old cigarettes made him dizzy. He could probably live with it, but... naaaaah. Joakim likes his fresh air, please and thank you.
The viking finally spotted the building in question, humming as he crossed the street towards it and headed for the entrance. He then took a few steps back when he realized he'd just walked right past the person he was supposed to meet, "Hej," he greeted the smaller woman, "Did you wait long?"

People passed by in many colours and forms, she noted. From time to time, she pulls out a pendant attached to a necklace she was wearing. A little owl clock, always 2 minutes early. Noting the time, she lets it fall and continues to watch the passing humans. Among this mass would be the one person she would be looking for.
Speak of the devil, there he was. Tall and lumbering like a lumberjack in a city. Well, more like a lumberjack hobo. He was ambling along, looking like he was a bit lost. A moment later, he made a beeline for the department store, likely to have spotted his destination. Amsteria began to straighten up to greet him, but then he flew right on by. Before she could utter a call, though, he turned right around with a greet and a question.
"Not at all," she replied, shaking her head as emphasis,"You don't really come down to bustling cities very often, do you?" Amsteria has only known the viking for the past week, ever since they introduced themselves at team meet. She wasn't exactly a talker either, so whatever she knew of him she inferred from his actions and the things he say. Reap orders and places he went to naturally couldn't be found out just by observing. She also found that kind of information...somewhat irrelevant to a casual topic in HQ.
"Anyway," she continued after a pause, watching a pair walk on by, a child sitting on the nook of an arm,"I suppose this is just going to be a short trip. Were you looking for anything particular?"
Waiting for a response, she noticed in hindsight just how awkward she sounded.

Sienna despite being a coward for the most really enjoyed the frantic lifestyle of city folks. She'd been a veritable country mouse and being able to lose herself in the teeming masses was wonderful. She got to be in the crowd without actually being a part of it. She could watch and listen to people without having to take part. Like a forever creeper. Smiling to herself she crossed a busy intersection with a small group of people to what would be her destination. A K Mart. They were anything but high end retail and she liked it that way. Since a lot of her clothes were things she bought cheap and altered to give it some style, a hefty price tag would often be silly. It wasn't like she had anything to dress up for anyhow. Just her day to day afterlife, most of which was done in her casual arraignment or her uniform.
As she walked to the door she paused and sought refuge behind a pillar. There were other apprentices here. Or well, dead folks. She'd hate to have another run in like she had with Kemta and the homicidal sour puss man. Once she looked them over and checked through her list of dangerous faces she'd scribbled in her DS with notes and code names she deduced that they were at the very least not going to strangle her over spilled tea. At least she had no records of it anyhow. Deciding it was rude to keep staring she walked over to them, her hands busy fumbling with her jacket's collar and gave a small wave. "Ah um h-hello." She greeted. The one looked familiar to her of course. But the other not so much.
((Ahahah HI.... I didn't see private in the title so if this wans't actually an open rp and you don't want this chicken tagging along just have them send her off k thanks. Don't worry she won't hold it against them she'd tell herself to take a hike too if it was possible. //kicked))

[[Oh hai hai Yels~ it's alright, the more the merrier!]]
The viking shook his head, "I like quieter places, as weird as that sounds. You look right at home here, though. You used to live around here?" the question came to him naturally, though he raised a brow when Ams asked him the question, "We're just here for air fresheners, aren't we? I don't really have anything else to buy." the taller of the two shrugged, "If you just needed someone to accompany you while you shopped, you could've just said so." He perked up slightly though when he heard another voice speak not too far away from where they were.
Standing an arm's length away from him was that dark-skinned woman again. He met her at the subway but they both had to split before introducing themselves, they were both in the library that one time but never really got to talk to each other, and then now, "Oh. Hej. ...Dammit this is the third time we've met and I haven't caught your name." there was mild annoyance in his tone as he scratched the back of his head. The action skewed his beanie slightly, which he pulled back in place, "Looking for stuff here too?" After a short pause, he let out a small scoff, "Oh, right. I'm Joakim. This is my teammate, Amsteria. Might as well get to know each other." he spoke with a light tone, grinning at the dark-skinned young lady.

(It's alright~)
She shrugs at Joakim's answer and subsequent question,"Where I worked when I was alive, someone was always on the streets during the day," she tilted her head at him at the next question. "Eeh, I could have come alone. It's out of habit that I ask others if there're other businesses to tend to...just so that we won't have a repetitive trip to the same place," Amsteria shrugged again,"but since you say you have no other business, then we might as well go find the things before the day turns too dark."
She turned around to enter the store, and heard a faint 'hi'. In the commotion of the living whizzing around, she dismissed it as the many sounds of people clashing, but Joakim had responded with a similar greeting. Amsteria paused, curious, and turned on her heel to see who this acquaintance of his was. It was a young woman, dark-skinned, dark haired. She was smiling sheepishly at both of them, but had a look of recognition set on Joakim. She had no thread, which was - ironically once dead - natural. Amsteria concluded that the woman was an Apprentice herself, probably from another team. Eeh, dead people still are people. People got necessities and Kmart's just one of those places to go to. She nods her own greeting as Joakim introduced her to the woman, a light smile tracing her lips. She waited for them to finish their pleasantries, weighing her options of initiating a light conversation...but Amsteria drew blank.
For years of not having to start a conversation in the quiet of her own office during her living days, Amsteria had forgotten how to comfortably start a conversation. She sighed inwardly, for a moment there was a spark of 'aayyyyyy lady talk' which immediately sputtered out upon recall of her lack of motivation for communication. So, out of habit, Amsteria crossed her arms across her chest, and continued to watch Joakim lay the words. Maybe she should just go into the department store now. Years of efficiency, too, was scratching at the back of her mind to just go get the job done and be done.
UGH BEING DEAD IS AS HARD AS BEING ALIVE, she screamed inwardly, squinting upwards into the sky with a frown on her face.

Still looking mildly hesitant as they turned her way Sienna held her ground and looked to the pantsuit wearing woman and back to ax man as he fussed with his hat. He sounded a little miffed about the name thing and she wondered if maybe she'd been rude by not giving her name on their previously short encounters.
Shifting her mental focus to him again she waited for him to say a name since it seemed he was going to. Instead he asked if she was here for stuff and much to her amusement he seemed annoyed at himself after he briefly realized what he'd done. Feeling a little less apprehensive in the face of that she managed a slightly less skittish smile as he introduced himself and his teammate.
"I'm Sienna.. and t-that would b-be nice. I'm uh here for um... some sewing t-things." She replied, finding it easier to look Joakim's way since his hair and hat oddly enough kept his eyes obscured. Her constant aversion to eye contact found this much easier on her nerves. Eventually though her gaze flicked back to Amsteria, or that spot over her left shoulder. Not that it mattered she'd suddenly found the sky interesting. She looked... uncomfortable she'd decided. And since that state was normal for her she knew well what it was like. She just hoped she wasn't ruining their outing by showing up suddenly. "Your um... name is v-very lovely." And it was. All those syllables, she really liked it.

He nudged Amsteria playfully, "Hey, the wee one likes your name," he grinned at the white-haired woman before rolling his shoulder to shift his bag into a slightly more comfortable position. He really needed to make the straps slightly wider, they've worn themselves down a bit too much over the years and they're now digging into his shoulder more than he'd like.
"You out here on your own again? Geez, at least bring a friend with you. It can get pretty dangerous down here," he noted that Sienna came alone. The only other time she wasn't alone was in the library, and even then it didn't look like she and the blue-haired chick were teammates. The sky rumbled overhead too, despite the sun shining and the clouds being not very dense.
"If you two are gonna chit-chat, I suggest we head inside before it rains. Wouldn't want you both catching colds unnecessarily or whatever." The last thing he needed was to take care of sick teammates. Joakim just wasn't good at that, no matter what people said about his nursing skills. He turned to walk through the entrance, waiting by the open door for the two women to follow suit.

Amsteria's face unraveled itself from the frown it was scrunched in at the compliment and subsequent nudge, and she looked at Sienna with a blink. Her name was rarely brought up, but deep in her heart she relished the fact that she was called by it. To be honest, even, she was quite proud of that name. Internal pride hidden well, she beamed at the brunette and said an honest thank you.
Still, she was not much of a talker, and her right hand unconsciously went to her chin, fingers spread across her lip. Amsteria nodded absently at Joakim's mention of being alone, muttering "quite true", and then realizing that she had intended to come alone. As the man passed by her towards the store, she raised an eyebrow and turned on her heel, keeping him in her vision. After a while of scrutinizing him with that look, Amsteria rolled her eyes and looked back at Sienna over her shoulder, sweeping her left hand in a gesture of 'you go first'.
At the very least, Amsteria was certain she can handle little brawls on her own. She also made a mental note to rub Joakim's sudden Irish accent in his face. Oh yes. Wee one, she mused. Leprechauns be popping up everywhere.
Amsteria simpered, and followed a few steps behind Sienna into the department store. She took in the sight of the place, a place that she hasn't seen for quite a while. She hoped that she wouldn't get lost in this place, that would be somewhat embarrassing for a person who calls themselves a pathfinder. Taking note of where the cashiers and exit and entrance were, she approached an aisle of powdered goods and starts to read the overhead signs.

Sienna glanced to her feet as she was called a 'wee one' but made no moves to dissuade the terminology, finding it more amusing than anything else. Seeing Amestria not look upset about her compliment and even smiled about it did much for her lack of confidence and it hard to not return it in kind though with far less intensity.
She glanced up a moment, startled from her thoughts as Joakim admonished her for once again leaching HQ alone. Her gaze found the pavement again as she idly twiddled her fingers nervously. It wasn't.. she just... hated to bother anyone to stop what they're doing to go with her. Her team mates were busy doing their own thing. It'd just be rude to ask and so she just never plucked up the courage to bother.
As rain was mentioned she glanced up and nodded mutely, scurrying in after Joakim as Amsteria followed. Once inside she looked around and made her way to the craft aisle where her sewing components waited patiently to be purchased. String, some needles and maybe a new pin cushion....

The two were too quiet for his liking. While they were walking, Joakim had insisted they walk ahead of him, given that he didn't know where the air fresheners were. Besides, he didn't like the prospect of standing up front and turning around to find that they were gone. Nope, not going to let that happen. Sure, nothing good comes from him acting the way he does, but at the very least, he'd like it if he didn't cause someone's extinction again. God knows how many Apprentices were erased from existence thanks to his carelessness.
"This shouldn't take long, right?" he asked absently, looking at the long lines of people at the cashier. Did they pick a wrong day to shop, or was it always so crowded in this... uh... K-Mart...? Whichever it was, it looked like Sienna found the aisle she was looking for, and he glanced over to where she walked off to, "Hey Sienna, if you're looking for us, we'll be right where the air fresheners are. I hope you know where that is, because I don't. " with an innocent shrug, he gave Sienna a small wave and turned to follow where Amsteria was leading him through the crowd.
And after another woman bumped into him with her shopping cart, the viking HAD to let out a "*For FANDEN--" and move out of the way, careful to not swing his fist in their direction, "Ams, wait up! How the fuck do you people survive in these situations!?" he growled, doing his best to catch up to the smaller woman. He could handle crowded battlefields, he could handle crowded feasting halls, but this? Fuck this shit. If anyone asks how in the world is he not accustomed to these kind of shops or situations after dying for more than a thousand years, his answer is simple.
He doesn't.
More often than not, Joakim very much prefers to shop at smaller, quieter shops with far less people, and that hasn't changed in the slightest.
=== Translation;
"For FANDEN--" = "For FUCK'S SAKE--"

Amsteria was reading the signs hanging overhead, stepping back and around people and their shopping carts, wailing children and lack thereof and bodies standing still as they, too, look to the signs for some hope of where they need to go. She turned her head at the loud curse behind her, seeing Joakim trying to remain calm. She sidles up to the edge of an aisle, keeping clear out of people's way.
"I suppose we all adapt, Joakim," she says from her spot, standing loosely. The bustling of people constantly moving could be overwhelming for some, she understood. However, she also believed in being prepared for such things. Adaptability was key. Nevertheless, she waited where she stood for the viking to catch up, catch his breath and gather himself. She looked up in the meantime at the label overhead, indicating the goods in the aisle.
How convenient, she mused. The label indicated that they were in the aisle where household things were, and looking across from her to the next aisle she saw that it was lined with fragrances. Bingo. Amsteria points to them while looking at Joakim, telling him that they've found what they were looking for. She steps forward and begins to poke around at the things, sniffing some with names that caught her fancy.

Sienna glanced over her shoulder as Joakim let her know where they were going and nodded as she continued her search for sewing supplies. After a good deal of time weighing her options she finally had her things. Some thread, new needles and she'd broken down and gotten an adorable little pin cushion. Not wanting to lose her small group she waded back into the crowds which she was used to maneuvering through. She liked the hub and murmur of the teeming masses herself. She could get lost in them easily enough and still be apart form them. Finally she found the air fresheners which had taken little effort to find and she walked over to hover close by and watch Amsteria giving the different scents a good sniff. For a moment she briefly pondered buying one and making it into a necklace for Mawell. Anything to cut into that odor he gave off after not bathing for a while.

[SORRY FOR THE DELAY YOU GAIS HAHA //SOB FLOWER EVENT AND REAL LIFE ATE MY TIME]
Growling, the Viking shoved one hand into his pocket, “Adapting is one thing…” he grumbled as he looked at the crowd walk past them, busy as bees but somehow managing to move with the flow of ‘traffic’ like a nestful of ants. Such a strange place the world has evolved into. He was about to say something else, but the smaller woman was on the move again.
Man, if there was one thing Joakim hated more than encountering battle-ready Hunters alone, it’s losing your teammates to a crowd of freaking mortals. It’s not exactly easy to see which person has no thread when everyone else in front of you has something white and shiny floating off them. Thankfully she didn’t move too far, seeing that they were in just the right aisle.
He raised a brow when Amsteria pointed at the fresheners. Joakim had seen quite a number being used, but when you expect to see bowls of potpourri only to see little… flasks? Bottles? Whatevers? Of… perfumed things, you do get a little disoriented for a while. At least till the scents hit you. “Oh, these are the things…” he mumbled, picking one up and turning it this way and that in his palm. ‘Soothing sea breeze’. Joakim chuckled at his mental image of people trying to catch the scent of sea breezes. He nudged Amsteria lightly, holding the air freshener up to her, “Imagine seeing some idiots trying to shove sea breeze into a container this big.” He grinned, “Fucking hilarious.” With that, he placed the air freshener back on the shelf and picked up another one.
This time, he picked up something lemon-scented. Joakim took a whiff of it and almost immediately held it at arm’s length, coughing slightly, “Lort—“ yeah, everybody would expect the lemon-scented things to smell that strong by now, Joakim. He hadn’t noticed Sienna walking towards them as he put the air freshener back and wondered if they should go with a stronger scent or a milder scent. They did have quite a bit of coffee and smoke to air out.

Amsteria picked up a solid air freshener, peering at its 'Holiday Cookies' label. Taking a whiff, she came to the conclusion that it might just be too sweet for a room full of men. She looks up with slight tense as a person came up to her right, and relaxes as she saw Sienna, also drawn to the items. A nudge on her left shoulder startled her, and she squints at Joakim for doing that. He was eager to show her a solid air freshener, however. Blue and labeled 'Soothing sea breeze', he made a comment about how foolish people could be to try to stuff the sea in it. Amsteria almost let out a snide remark, but she remembered that Joakim was essentially a man from over 1000 years in the past.
He had yet to know, or get used to, the vast advancements of technology in the making of things. People didn't need to stuff the sea into a bottle or a jar, they just needed to emulate the smell and it would be suffice. Amsteria sighs softly and picks up another freshener, good old 'Lavender'. Perhaps she should opt for something that acts as a neutralizer. Perhaps she should also pick up more than 2. One per bunk would be good.
No. 2 for Grim and 2 for Shorinaga. Yes. That was going to be her plan. She looks up as Joakim utters something in recoil, holding a lemon-scented freshener in one hand at arm's length. "Do you like that one? Citrus is supposed to give off a sharp refreshing smell, maybe it would cut through the smoke and coffee," Amsteria responds. She picked another one up, "Lavender neutralizer", so it said. She holds it absently in one hand as she tilts her head one way, thinking. She should pick something she liked, but then it might clash with the rest of the scents. Amsteria casts a glance at the one that Joakim was holding. Lemon was good, but it could overpowering. Perhaps there was another blend...
She began to look for fresheners based off of citrus and fruits.
