Lang held his hand out for the birdseed, careful not to disturb the sparrow on his finger. Some panicked thoughts rushed through his mind. Oh god, what if he drops something? What if he drops the bird. The bird chirped once, as if it were offended by his thoughts. He sighed. He really needed to stop overthinking these things.

Owen let some drop into his palms, and the sparrow followed. It pecked gently out of Lang's hands, ignoring him in favour of the food.
"She likes you." Owen commented.

Lang, engrossed with watching the bird eat, looked up at the bird man. "Really?" He asked, slightly amazed.
He looked back down to continue watching the bird peck at his hand. "Birds have always hated me, ever since I died." Now that he's a hunter, they hate him even more. It's like they can sense his resentment. He looked back at the bird man. "How do you do it?"

"She can like a food bowl." Owen shrugged. Birds were usually shallow after all. Kind of like cats. Except Owen hated cats. At least that thought didn't cross his mind.
"I don't." He shook his head. "I don't all the time..." He put his hand in front of Lang's face to see, almost sticking it too close. His fingers were covered in bright coloured plasters, along with healing scratches along his wrist and palm. "They don't like you all the time."

Lang only noticed the bandages when the bird man showed him, which proved how good his observational skills were. "Those look so painful," he said, vaguely and extremely horrified. "It's a good thing this one's friendly, then."

Owen shook his head. "Not painful anymore..." He brought his arm to his eyes and tilted his head in curiosity, analysing them. "The big birds are more painful..." He remembered these wounds were from larger birds. The sparrow could only dream of giving the birdkeeper such an angry scratch.

That's true, Lang winced as he looked at the bird man's scars. Lang turned back to the tiny sparrow in his hands, and it stared back at him innocently. "You sound like you've had a lot of experience with birds. I assume you're a birdkeeper then?"

Owen nodded, though he wasn't surprised by the guess. He knew bird keeping wasn't a common nor easy job at HQ, and he knew that they were proud to have him as one of the longer term staff.
"What are you?" He asked.

Lang immediately froze, sweat forming on his forehead. Oh no. Oh god. aaaaaahhhhHHHh
"I-i'm a full-time reaper!" He stammered out. Well, that was his last profession at HQ, so... Wait should he elaborate.
"Y-yeah, uh. I'm rarely in headquarters, because I'm uh, you know. Reaping souls. All day. Haha. Ha." Did they still have full-time reapers??? He hadn't been in HQ for so long, what if everything had changed???Lang could feel his hand trembling, and oh no the bird was going to fall off and panic panic panic.

Owen nodded. Luckily for Lang, hardly anything had changed at HQ... same old, same old... even in the century or more he was there, there were little changes in the work structure anyway...
The sparrow could feel his nerves though, and promptly chirped at him, albeit angrily. And its tiny claws sunk deeper into his flesh so she wouldn't fall off.

Lang, not seeing any suspicion in the bird man's eyes, relaxed a little. He tried to apologize to the bird, but his nerves were still wound too tight, so he settled for a guilty stare in its general direction.
"I've never met a birdkeeper before," Lang said, trying to crawl back into truth territory. He could feel his heartbeat slow in the aftermath, which was also nice. "What is it like? Other than getting attacked by birds, of course." Lang smiled a little with the last sentence, a nervous twitch of the lips.

"It is ok." Owen shrugged. "You have good days. You have bad days. Good and bad is normal." He continued to stare blankly at Lang, looking curious about his face.

A standard answer that Lang agreed with, he supposed, but then he noticed the bird man staring at him. "Is something wrong?" He asked.

His eyes widened as he caught himself staring, and he shook his head obviously from side to side. "No..." He said. "You're new." Owen tilted his head to the side. "I want to remember new things."

Lang looked back at him, confused. He was still unfamiliar with the concept of people remembering him, honestly. "I-I see," He stuttered, lost for words.
