That pained wail broke her heart and caused her more hurt than any other wounds she had received that night. “Dammet…” She cursed under her breath, resting her forehead against the brambles of the thick hedge around her as she punched at the branches, closing her eyes and focusing her thoughts. She needed to stay calm, she couldn’t panic. She needed to keep it cool, cool and Francy. “Doc! …no…STAN! Stan. Listen. You gotta hakuna your tatas aight…” She called through the hedges with a raised voice, gripping the brambles and listening out carefully for signs of his voice anywhere, even if they were incoherent wailing. “I want you to take a good look around ya now. Take a good look. And tell me whatcha see,”

She had him good and stuck between a rock and a hard place. He could feel the knife pressed against his throat. Walter had the perfect reply for this nightmare creature and it involved a lot of swear words, but with the sudden grip and suddenly calling him Bastian what came out was a growl merged with the word “what”.
Clearly both girls had lost their marbles now. Sisi what are you doing there is no reasoning with crazy people. This was not going to end well, even Walter could tell that much. “I already tried helping her.” He muttered under his breath, growing increasingly more angry with every thing the girl said. Usually he settled with being grumpy and giving people the silent treatment for being a pain in the arse, but if anything was making him properly mad, being denied his best friend with a knife to his throat was it.
With the little girls (if that even was a little girl) attention on his friend Walter slid his hand into his pocket, closing his hand around the sommelier knife, determined to send this thing back to the hell hole it had crawled out from. Just one slip up. A single moment of hesitation. That's all he needed.

The Hatter cackled softly as he took his time returning along the path, especially considering the weight of the scythe he dragged behind him. Not that the man would seem to mind. He just braced the Scythe handle against his shoulder and heaved along with a merry tune.
Much of it was babbling Blackbird oldies and slashing at the Rose hedges with the lighter dagger to pass the time. "--Where somebody waits for me, Sugar's sweet and so is He. Bye-bye, Blue bird, bye-bye. No one here can love and understand me! O! What hard-luck stories they all hand me--Hahaha! Isn't that the truth!"
It was useful to be hacking away at those dreadful thorns when any mangled branches jutted out in his path. Maxwell had played enough in the thorns an brambles; he'd rather not get caught in them again, to be quite honest. Though it didn't stop him from picking up a bundle of prickly roses as he went and stuffing them in his pockets. A gift for Sienna, in case she got upset with him for whatever reason. That silly girl was always mad at him.
When he came back to the fork, Maxwell tread along on the path he'd sent Sienna on, still giggling and singing and dragging along his souvenirs. "O' Make my bed and light the light, I'll arrive late tonight. So Bye-bye, Blue bird, toot-a-lou. I'll be looking out for you~" The Rainbow Hatter exaggerated a fluttery sigh, tapping the dagger's point to his chest. "Oh, Martin. You're such a heart throb~ehehehahahahAHAH!"

He heard her tell him to look around and tell her what he sees. He looked up, as if trying to look over the hedge, "A...aagh..." his throat felt sore from his earlier wailing, blinking back the urge to cry out of sheer frustration.
The cracked Hunter turned, looking down the winding path to his right, then to the straight path to his left where he came from, "St...raight...?" He managed to get the word out, limping his way down the straight route. Maybe Zel was just behind the hedge near him.
He passed the junction that he came in from, only to stop at another junction. Does he go straight or right?
Stanley let out a whimper at this. He didn't want to think. His head hurt. His leg hurt. His chest hurt.
"T...Take... right...?" He called out as loudly as his throat would let him, leaning heavily against the hedge while waiting for a response.

OWEN :
Lenne is tugged by you to the left fork, and the two of you break into a run along the straight path. There is enough light for you see your way forward, and as you two run, she answers your question from earlier.
"Yea it sounded somethin' like that!" Her left hand grips Fran's lantern tightly, fearing that she might drop it in their frantic run, while her right is gripping Owen's with equal tension. "She and him are buddies or somethin', as with her and emo-fringe Mr. Mask…" she remarks off-handedly, focusing her attention on running ahead instead.
Something feels really wrong behind this hedge…they need to get there, FAST!
As you two run to the end of the straight path, the road curves sharply to the right, like a U-turn, and the both of you dash around the corner in a hurry…
…only to see a very bizarre scene played out before your eyes.
A little girl Walter's height seems to be taking him hostage, whilst Sienna is some distance away and seems to be pleading with her to let him go. Instinct instantly kicks in to Lenne's muscles--she's hesitated once, she can't afford to do it again...
Without waiting for Owen's reaction, Lenne lets go of Owen's hand, and pulls out the pistol from its holster, though…she's not quite sure where to aim, since they are all threadless. She'll probably need your help with identifying who to shoot.
"Damn…" She curses under her breath, as her finger trembles shakily on the trigger.
"Don't move! ANY OF YOU!"
SIENNA & WALTER :
A mirthless laugh escapes the little girl's pink lips as she shakes her head condescendingly at Sienna, her vice grip on Walter, unfaltering.
"H̀el̕p̛ m̵e,͝ she ̀say͢s…" The little girl's blue-grey eyes continue to leak tears as she croaks bitterly, grinning back at Sienna despite her tear-stricken features.
"…bu̸t͝ ̶I'm̷ ̨n͡o͢t t͠he̡ ͘o͠n̨e̸ wh͟o ͟n͢e͞edś he̷l̸p…Heh…h̷̫͙̗̰͎͉͔e̞̖̠̱̪͖ͣ͢h̘͖̝̫̲͉͕͐ͩͬ͜ḛ̙̰̪̘͐̑̐ͣ̅h̼̤͊̈́̃̇̀̾ẽ͙̟̯̰̗̹̉̽ḧ̸̭́ͣͮ͂͛̌̅ẹ́́ͪ̆͛͒ͧḫ̝̻̹̀ͅͅe̱͠ȟ̢̫̩̿̽̋e̜̭̘͉̳͎̦͆͛ͭ̏̾̑̚͜h̭̘̩̣͇̦̝͑́ͯͥ̑ͧ͌̀e̲̯͎̙͉̰̋ͯ…"
Although she is giggling eerily at you both, a stream of tears continues to flow from her icy blue-grey eyes. There is a bitter sorrow like no other emanating from her very being as she holds Walter hostage. "…help me…help him…haven't you heard the rumours? Because…I heard…I heard the rumours..." she squeaks, sobbing as her blade continues to press dangerously against Walter's neck. "…help…" It is such a pathetic cry from her that it sounds like…a plea, even. "…he was…so so close to me…"
Her tear-filled eyes grow cold and emotionless as she leers at Walter, matching his icy blue eyes with steely-blue-grey orbs.
"Why would I be looking for the exit?"
A rustling in the bushes sounds from behind Walter and the little girl as she speaks. She does not seem to notice.
"I am…very lost."
Little do any of you expect Lenne and Owen to emerge from around the hedges, panting, and looking quite out of breath. As Lenne calls out to all of you not to move, the sudden sound of her voice causes the little girl to raise her brows, breaking her concentration for a fraction of a second. It's now or never! What do Walter and Sienna do? Does Walter take this chance to break free, even though there is a risk that Lenne might shoot him for moving? After all, she doesn't quite know who's the real enemy here… Maybe it's better to play it safe and keep still?
[ If Walter wishes to take this chance to attack, Walter has to do 2 rolls, 1 for STR, 1 for DEX! Meaning: STR roll: [ roll ] + STR stat DEX roll: [ roll ] + DEX stat without the spaces between roll and the parentheses ]
[ If Walter chooses not to attack, Walter does not need to do any rolls. ]
MAXWELL :
You have chosen to resume the path that you sent the lovely lemon tart on, and if you continue to walk on along the curving path, you will notice an obvious hole in the hedge on the right. This is the very same hole hole that Sienna has climbed through not too long ago…
Should you peek through this hole, you will be able to see through to the other side of the hedge, where there is yet another (smaller) hole, framed with ripped blue and white strips of cloth from Sienna's struggle through it. You may recognise those strips of cloth as part of her Alice outfit.
Across the hedges, if you listen carefully, you might be able to hear some murmuring and voices from people that you recognise! Your friends are, in fact, not too far away…
[ Maxwell is now 2 hedges away from Sienna and Walter. ]

Hearing his voice, although it was weakening and full of pain, gave strength and motivation to Zel in the form of a renewed sense of urgency, as she broke into a sprint towards the right, pushing back thoughts of her fatigue and the pain in her arms from injury. Unlike Stanley, Zel's legs were uninjured and intact, although gripped with ache and exhaustion… She took a sharp left turn, dashing past the dead end she had run into earlier, remembering her frustration from it, as she reached a 2-way fork in the path she had run into. "Fishing cow frogs…which way…?" She grumbled under breath, looking along both forks apprehensively. The right one did seem to lead her closer to the source of his voice, but what if it led to another dead end? Slamming her fist impulsively into the side of the hedge, she let out an anguished bellow at the hedges that stood between her and her personal doctor, the man who held so many secrets, who wore so many scars telling countless tragic tales of a wretched past life… The man who she absolutely needed to get to now. "Stan? STAN? Ya still there?" She called out, her voice laced with worry as she gripped a leafed branch in the hedge to calm and steady herself. She needed to check where exactly he was, and how far more she had to go to get to him... [ Zel and Stanley are now 2 hedges apart from each other. They will be able to hear each other without having to yell. ]

Sienna was at a loss of what to do. She just wanted everyone to get out unharmed and safe. It wasn't much to ask for right? Well apparently it was. The girl was still angry but now she was crying. How could she be acting one way and yet have tears streaming down her face. She felt so bad for her but Walter was still in danger. She was really starting to hurt from her explosive entrance so she was extra useless. Slowly though she stood up a slower process than she cared to admit.
Footsteps behind them drew her attention and she whipped her head around to see some girl she didn't recognize and Owen. She looked relieved for a moment once she assessed he was safe and uninjured. That was until she drew a gun and aimed at them all. She had no idea what was going on and she herself wasn't about to let her try and shoot anyone. Of course she was useless though so her only real move here was to play shield which she did shifting her position so she was blocking her from shooting anyone but herself. Turning to face the strange girl and Owen she frowned. "Don't you s-shoot anyone." Her voice was soft but demanding. If she tried to shoot the girl she'd hurt Walter and she was not about to let a task she'd been trusted with fall to ruin. "S-so please. Everyone... calm down."

Stanley froze, letting out a shuddering breath. She sounded so close. He pushed himself off of the hedge, wincing as his leg screamed in protest of how much he was moving, "Zel..!" He called out, following the hedge he previously leaned on and eyeing his surroundings.
His heart sank when he didn't see anybody. Was someone playing a trick on him? They were doing an amazing job at it. His currently one-track mind kept going, though, forcing himself to take several more shaky steps.
"H...ere...?" his voice shook, almost cracking at how he was still surrounded by foliage.
Maybe he was alone.
Maybe there was nobody here.
But he took another step. Just... rounding one more corner shouldn't hurt. Zel was here. She had to be. The Hunter earlier on couldn't have lied...!

Lenne certainly seemed to be in a bit of a hurry. There definitely was tension in the air, and even Owen could feel that there was something wrong about the night. Or perhaps it was his imagination, but then again, with the Bowler Hat wandering around here with so many other threadless there was some danger to be had. The woman grabbed him by the arm and he went after her, arriving around the corner to see Walter, Sienna, and a little girl he didn't recognise. And she looked like she was going to hurt Walter...
Without any time to react, Lenne had already pulled out her gun. The boy's eyes widened at the sight, though understandably he could empathise with her at this stage. He was a pacifist himself, yet when faced with an unfamiliar situation he too would panic and lash out. He simply looked at her, and put a hand over the loaded gun. If it went off and he got hurt, so be it. But if someone else here did, enemy or not, he would feel guilty for not stopping it. "No." he said simply, voice and face unfazed by the scene before them.
"I don't know the little girl..." he said to her in earnest. "But I don't want you to shoot." Humans should not get involved, he repeated mentally to himself, though he was shaking his head.

As The Rainbow hatter crossed the hole in the hedge, he stopped to stare at it as if to recognize it. Clearly it was the first time he'd passed the stretch of hedge, though. "Did Alice go down the rabbit hole again? Oh me, oh my, what a surprise! What do you think, Mister Bowl? Shall we join them?" He turned to smile at something besides him, but nothing was there. "My thoughts precisely!"
Wringing his fingers around the Scythe, Maxwell bent low and shimmied through, dragging the scythe along behind him. He'd keep his free hand firmly atop his hats, keeping them capped an avoiding the loss of anymore sweets--or sanity. "Goodness, it sounds, like an out right party! EheheHAhaha- Mister Bowl, I do believe they've started without us. How rude!" Tsking his tongue to his teeth, he venture on through the next hole, pausing to pick off all the shreds of white an blue ruffles. Alice might want those back. "I do hope there's tea to spare, Mister Bowel," he chimed as he shimmed through the next hedge. It wasn't much of a hole, though...
"Do you mind if I borrow this? No? Wonderful--" Hatter used the dagger to hack at the hedge as he went, attempting to widen the hole and clear the way. Giggling and humming as he hacked his way through. "I hear Alice, and Bunny! Oh, you'll love them, Mister Bowl. They're DELIGHTFUL people--HohoheHEHehahah~! Absolutely...delightful--And some one new? Hey-ho, who's there, I wonder--? The Queen of Hearts, perhaps?" ---- Attack turn: ON THE BUSH DEX roll: 11 + 6 = 17

Sienna seemed to have no effect with her approach besides making the girl even more weird. A rustle caught Walters attention, followed by Owen and...someone with a gun by the sounds of it. Not that he could turn his head around and check what was going on with his head stuck.
Blast it all and be gone you horrible thing! She hadn't even been talking about Maxwell!
Driving his corkscrew upwards he intended to use his weapon to shove her arm and the knife away from him, or at least make her drop it.

Owen stepping in made Sienna feel a little better but not much as she shot him a meaningful look and hoped he was alright. She didn't want the sweet boy getting hurt anymore than she did anyone else in the vicinity. His lack of facial expressions made it hard to gauge him sometimes. Which in retrospect made him a lot like Maxwell only he smiled at everything and Own never at all. That girl still had that gun and Walter was still being held hostage as she flicked her gaze to the side, catching a quick glimpse out of the corner of her eye. She couldn't see him struggling with his weapon just yet and wouldn't because of the angle and because she was too focused on keeping everyone alive with her limited skill set. If something had needed cleaned though well she'd have been the heroine of this mad tale. But it was not so instead she was cast as a very, very useless damsel in distress. And she really hated that. What kind of Laytonite was she if she couldn't be of any use in any situation?
The sound of someone joining them from where she had previously pushed through the hedge caught her attention, diverting it from the others as she looked increasingly worried. The sound of steel on leaves and branches was hard to miss and she cringed as she mentally assessed the sounds, noting that something exceedingly large was being used. Was it actually about to get worse?! Had that Bowler hatted person disposed of the other man and Maxwell and come to clean up the rest of them?
A bone-chilling panic seized a hold of her senses as she fought to keep her rational mind afloat in a sea of anguish. And then that distinct laugh filtered in, cutting right through her fears. She could pick out that maniacal sounding laugh in a crowded stadium. She'd heard it enough in her nightmares. Relief flooded her chest and she let out the breath she'd been unknowingly holding once she heard something on the other side of the hedge. And then a look of disgust flickered across her features as she realized she'd actually been happy to hear that laugh. Happy to hear that spine chilling laughter that usually preceded something she wanted to murder him for. Happy that he was here and unharmed. Ugh. How could she have two completely different emotions all at once about the same person?! It was insane! He was making her insane.
Despite her physical reactions to the goings on though she didn't budge and instead shoved her crazy thoughts aside to keep focused on this crisis. Maxwell might very well save them. But he could just as easily make it worse. She was hoping that just this once he could be a positive addition to this dangerous gathering.
Whoops, couldn't resist slipping in a reaction/actionless post~

(( hehe don't worry Yels, it's no problem at all! ^-^ /happily reads this ))
SIENNA, OWEN & MAXWELL :
Lenne doesn't take her eyes off the scene ahead of her, neither does she lower the gun in her hands. She's determined to gain control of this situation after having messed up so badly earlier that night… She shakes her head at Owen, registering that the most probable non-ally of this whole setup was likely to be the threadless little girl holding the equally-threadless-and-equally-little boy hostage… "I don't want to shoot either, Owen…but if I have to…" She trails off.
She and Owen don't hear the Rainbow Hatter's voice till he emerges from the hedge in his full, multi-coloured glory. Thanks to his dextrous use of Sebastian's dagger, Maxwell manages to cut his way through the thick hedge, only getting minor scratches on his hands from the ordeal. Guess that this hedge has scored one less victory against Team Apprentice today…
The sudden appearance of Maxwell, however, has Lenne turning her gun instinctively to him instead, her eyes wide with mild panic. Why was no one taking her seriously? She really was going to shoot at the next person who moved! Why wouldn't anyone believe her?!
WALTER :
(( hey fuego, sorry for the confusion! ; v ; the [ roll ] command is actually the same bbcode as the Forum Dice command. it's actually the auto-generated html code for the forum 6-sided dice. I just decided to spell it out in html code terms so that it'd be clearer + less confusion for you guys ^-^ the default roll command for these forums was a 6-sided dice, but I think now that someone has used the forum dice to roll a d20, the system broke OTL for consistency's sake let's stick to the original rolls from before the dice function broke! ; v ;
I got them to roll using a d6 dice first cuz they are not fighting to kill yet, they're struggling to disarm. The DEX stat will determine whether the weapon lands a hit on her, and the STR stat will determine whether the weapon is knocked out of her hand. No HP will be taken off yet, but when it gets to HP, i might involve a d20 dice instead. i will specify in my post what command to use to roll. sorry for confusion T v T ))
Rolls for The Little Girl: STR 5 + 1 = 6 (6 > 3, Little Girl does not lose her weapon) DEX 5 + 5 = 10 (10 is a draw, Walter manages to struggle free from the little girl's vice grip with the aid of his weapon, but does not manage to injure the little girl)
Walter manages to catch the little girl off guard during the split second when she is distracted, but her sharp reaction time and quick instincts have her parrying his weapon with a terrible sound of screeching metal. She grips tightly onto her blade, maintaining a firm hold on it so that it doesn't fly out of her hand. Walter is now free from her grasp, although he does not manage to injure her.
Simultaneously Lenne turns her gun from Maxwell, to the scuffle between Walter and the little girl, to Sienna, and back to the scuffle. Why wouldn't anyone take her seriously…? Anger courses through her veins as she pushes Owen's hand away from her to protect him from getting hurt, and her finger on the trigger squeezes down on it.
[ Lenne to do d20 roll + WIS to test her resolve on whether she manages to fire a shot or not. Roll > 5 = she fires the shot Roll 6-10 = she fires it in the air Roll 11-15 = she panics and fires the shot at Maxwell Roll 16-20 = she fires the shot at Walter and the Little Girl ]
Lenne's gunshot roll: 14 + 3 WIS= 17
Lenne squeezes the trigger with a fierce determination, and fires a shot at Walter and the little girl.
[ Walter to do a d20 dice roll using the code [ roll ] without the spaces + DEX Stat to see whether he is hit by the gunshot! ] Roll result 10 and less = Walter is hit by the shot. (further instructions will be given in my next post regarding the extent of his injury) Roll 11 and above = Walter manages to dodge the shot ]·_C9gbYyS

The right fork.
His voice was definitely coming from the right fork. Letting out a loud bellow of "YESSS!!!", the spiritually-aware musician burst into a sprint along the right fork, emerging at the entrance to a long straight path that veered either left or right, from where she was standing. She whipped her head to the left -- empty path. No Stanley there. And so…she whipped her head to the right…
…and there he was, leaning heavily against the hedges just round the corner. She couldn't see him fully, since most of him was still being obscured by hedge, but she was so relieved and grateful to see that tall, lanky, masked medic--intact and very much alive, that she let out a loud yell that sounded like a cross between a victory shout and a cry of anguished relief.
There he was….finally.
"DOC!!" She shouted again, running as fast as she could along the long hedge-lined path to him, her brightly coloured hair trailing behind her like a strange-looking tail of sorts. To heck with the pain in her arms, to heck with her fatigue, to heck with whether The Man in the Bowler Hat found them… He was here, right in front of her, and she needed to get to him--fast.
It wasn't until she got closer to him that her amber eyes fell on the blood-soaked cloth bound tightly around one of his legs… "...wha-...?" She tensed up for a moment in horror and shock at the realisation that he was hurt, bad, before bolting forward at sonic speed (and looking quite like the actual character, blue hair and all)...

There she was.
"Z e l. .." he murmured with a shaky breath, eyes fixed on the loud figure quite a ways from him. Chuckling from behind his mask, the pain was helping him hold back the urge to let out a maniacal laugh at the discovery of his friend. He'd take several steps forwards, his grip on his cane lost as he reached out to her with a bloodsoaked, gloved hand.
His knee gave way under him, unable to take the abuse he was piling on how weak it was already feeling. Hell, it was something of a miracle that he got this far with his bad leg. The Hunter hadn't even felt his knee touch the ground before the Human he was looking for caught him and propped him up against the hedge.
This was fine.
If she had questions for him, he didn't hear them. If she was busy fussing over him, that wasn't important right now.
Stanley simply pushed her hands away from his leg, wrapped his arms around her shoulders and hugged her. Tightly.
She was real. She was here. He didn't imagine her after all. His shoulders shook in silent laughter, even when his eyes welled up with relieved tears.
He could still see the beautiful silver glow around her.
Zel was alive.
Zel was alive.
