((Ahhhh sorry for the delay guys! I was gone for a convention for most of the week and I'm still trying to get back into the swing of things. ;v;))
HENG, WINONA Winona ran down the path until the previous fork in the road came into view again. The signs still dutifully pointed to their locations: Arboretum and Waterfall just as before. There was another sign, now visible since Winona was coming from the Waterfall path this time and it read “Meeting Grounds” and it pointed towards the picnic area where they all first met and where Joakim, Esther and Lincoln all parted from Heng and Winona. Down that path was in the direction of where sound of gunshot came from. The sound of the panther was behind her but faint noise of struggle can still be heard.
Which path to choose, where to go, what to do, Winona?
The panther hissed as Heng rounded ahead of it and cut the big cat off. They were still down the path, halfway between the waterfalls and the fork. The panther eyes gleamed when Heng raised his weapon as it anticipated to dodge.
DEX against Heng's STR roll: ((You are doing it right, no worries! OvO )) Ph8PsLiq +6= 19
Skillfully the cat leaped out of Heng's way and his Ji hit nothing but the dirt path. The clash between iron and rough stones make an awful short screech. The panther turned its head back and roared at Heng as a warning...however, it did not attack. Instead it turned around and started down the same path as before, the same one Winona was running down.
LINCOLN The boy seemed to know his way around the forest, even in its pathless state. "Athyrium filix-femina. They are everywhere. We use to pick them and make hats out of them." He said as Lincoln shined his phone light over a leafy plant. "Oh, buxbaumia! That's rare! My dad says they don't normally show up around here." He said when Lincoln stepped over some moss with stems sticking out of them. This was small talk too, directed at only himself. It was perhaps to distract himself from crying more. Every so often, Aaron would sniffle, wipe his nose with his sleeve and pull Lincoln down a direction. After a moment, soft sounds of water could be heard. "My dad has dark hair, and glasses, and usually he has his lab coat on." Aaron answered, his voice sounding distant as if he was imagining the man in his mind right now. "And he has green eyes like me. Everyone in my family has green eyes. Me, my mom, dad, Jenny..." The boy's voice trailed off when he heard another. Through some trees, there was a small clearing where the forest breaks into the lake side. Right now, the moon was shining brightly, directly overhead. The pitch black lake reflected its distorted image on its surface. And there, still quite far away was a figure.
Joakim, with a puddle of blood under his feet, bleeding out by the forest line. He was staring into the woods at an unseen someone or something still in the thicket. Then Joakim did a quick look over his shoulder, to the lake, before returning his sights back into the forest as if there was something pressing there.
The boy froze for a moment, in shock at seeing another person and so much sudden blood. Then he followed Joakim's look to the lake and found a rocky island in the middle. His eyes landed on another smaller, miserable-looking figure, huddled on the island, close to the water.
"Jenny?" He said softly as he stared at the girl on the island. He looked over at Lincoln and grabbed the man’s hand. "Jenny!" He yelled excitedly, more certain that time and pointed to the girl. His voice was a clear echo across the lake.
JOAKIM, ESTHER “Tsh.” As the man watched Esther leave, there was some deep disdain in his voice. His green eyes flickered back to the bleeding man in front of him. “Now it’s just you and me.” The man now pointed his shotgun at Joakim moment Esther left and motioned for him to move to the right. “Get up, apprentice.” He didn’t take Joakim’s bait of distraction and used no more words than needed. He seemed to be about to bark an order to him but something to his left side caught his eye.
A...light? In the forest? Lincoln’s makeshift phone flashlight shined through some trees, a lone light in the darkness of the forest. Then-
“Jenny!” Said a child’s voice, a muffled echo from the forest. The girl on the rocky island in the middle of the lake suddenly looked up at the call of the name. And for a moment, the man’s eyes widened in confusion and shock. For one moment.
((ACTION: Yep, Joakim can run, Tengu! Please roll for Dex to run. I will have to dock Joakim -2 HP for any vigorous moments (whether it be attacking, running, fighting, swimming, etc) though on the account of his injuries.
Esther is running to get help and I will have to do that too. XD I’m going to pull in help and reply to her actions next round, copper!))

ACTION: Joakim attacks.
STR = Rx7BOIpg+ 5 = 20 DEX = + 3 = 19

The single moment of distraction was all he needed.
As soon as the Hunter's eyes were off of him, Joakim lunged forwards, his carving knife in hand. His original plan had been to hide, but his instincts shrieked for him to return the pain that was inflicted upon him. Pushing the barrel of the shotgun skywards so nobody would be accidentally shot, Joakim drove his knife in the direction of the bespectacled man's ribcage, aiming to drive the blade as deep as it could between the bones and into the lungs.
Every action wracked his body with another blaze of agony, and it was all Joakim could do to snarl to bite back the pain and concentrate on making sure his attack connected. More blood seeped between his teeth.·

((No problem Minty!! I hope you had fun ovo))
Winona slowed to a stop once she reached the fork in the road; panting heavily, and rubbing each foot for a moment. She wasn't trained to run barefoot in forests. Or from futzing panthers. She knew that said beast was on her tail, so she had to choose fast. But where, which path, which way??
She frantically looked from the arboretum path to the meeting grounds path. Logic would dictate to avoid sounds of struggle, but her mind was on the huge cat behind her. If she could get to the meeting grounds, maybe one of the others would have made it out and would be willing to share a 'mum. Heck, she'd run through the damn streets of New York, rather than go deeper into the dark woods. So, she chose the Meeting Grounds path, and ran like hell.
The further she went, the more voices she heard. She gripped her scissors even tighter, holding them up like brass knuckles. Just in case.
((ACTION: Run towards the Meeting Grounds. Albeit not the best idea. Also, should i have rolled for DEX for her running??))

"Wowww--"
Lincoln could only manage to utter his amazement at the reflective waters and the fact that such a lake existed within these gardens. How did these things fit in here...? Maybe gardens were always bigger than they seemed to be from the outside. One of these days he should run into a wall and also find a garden to amble through. He looked around in awe as Aaron tugged at him, coming to a stop. His grin of awe slowly disappeared as Lincoln processed what he saw ahead of him. This was the place, wasn't it?
Joakim looked pretty badly injured, from the amount of blood he had leaked on the ground. Lincoln stopped walking, feeling Aaron's hand leaving his as he tried to figure out what to do. The bigger man was staring at something in the woods. Was it the shooter? Lincoln dared not make a sound, lest the man pinpointed his position, but he was shaken from his reverie when Aaron yelled out a name and grabbed his hand to pull him towards the lake.
"Wait!" Lincoln cried, casting glances in Joakim's general direction. He could barely make out the gunman, hidden among the plants. It seemed, however, that the viking took the moment of confusion from Aaron's shouting to tackle the man. Lincoln turned back to Aaron and dug his heels into the ground, pulling at the boy. "Aaron, stop!" he said loudly as he pulled the boy back to him and hunkered down to the earth, using his body to cover the child, while keeping his head turned in the direction of the brawl Joakim got himself into.
Lincoln flipped his phone so it ended up screen down, but it wouldn't make any difference with the moon being full and shining on them all. He could only hope that what grassy cover they had around them would keep them both hidden. He brought a finger to his lips to shush the child.
"Hide and seek, okay. My hair will fool the guy," Lincoln whispered, calming himself. He wasn't certain if ghost children would get hurt from assaults, but he had to admit it would be heartless to let a child get injured.

"Tch," Heng sounded, drawing back his weapon to regain his footing. This would be much faster if the Panther would just fight back.
Heng took a breath, then started running after it again. Of course he can't run as fast as the panther, but he could keep it in his sight well enough. Should he throw his weapon at it? ....No, no that was a terrible idea. He grit his teeth, licking his lips.
If this was Heng before he became a captain, he wouldn't even think about this situation in any tactical form. Hack and slash was the foot soldier's way. However, he was given larger responsibilities like that after promotion. Though his role was still mainly to follow the orders of the generals, he still had to strategize and plan. He had to use his critical thinking skills.
And this was a great place to apply those. It would be, if Heng wasn't so set on killing the panther as soon as possible, that is. See, the panther, though its refusal to fight and disinterest in Heng was peculiar, it still posed a bodily threat, and its motives were unknown. Was it aiming to attack Ms. Winona, or was it simply trying to go somewhere? There were plenty of opportunities to fight to kill, but the panther took none of them.
The chance that is was peacefully trying to travel through the forest was not one that Heng felt like investigating further though. It wasn't worth it.
However at this moment, Heng was still just uselessly running after the panther. He really had no choice but to see where it was going, at least until he could strike it again.

The sooner they all got help, the better. Esther didn't give herself much time to dally -- she made a beeline for her intended destination.
HQ's grand entrance stood straight ahead, and nearby would be the medics' office. She'd gone through the flower fields without running into a single soul, so her next bet would be the medics. They were the closest, she needed a bandage for her hand, and at least one of them needed to come back to the park.
Maybe she'd go with whoever went out; maybe she wouldn't. But if she did, she'd be sure to ask for a proper weapon. The scissors she had with her wouldn't do much against a gun and who knows what else.

((Sorry you guys, I have an unexpectedly busy month at work and in RL. ;v; It's been really crazy, I hope you can forgive me!))
JOAKIM One moment. His eyes widen. That voice...no, it couldn’t be. It can’t be….He turned his head slightly at the sound and caught a glimpse, a flash of moment that was neither tree nor animal- around the size of a man and...a child. The man’s green eyes glazed over for a moment as a thousand thoughts and memories fill his head.
A brief moment of hesitation, of doubt, was all it took.
His attention snapped back into focus when Joakim lunged at him and drew a surprised gasp. From up close, Joakim would be able to see the other man’s thread. Wait...it was red. At least part of it was, the part closest to his body.
[Rolls against Joakim] Str (resisting Joakim’s shotgun pull, will have to roll a perfect 20 to pull this off): f8jSGXfI +0=10 Dex (dodging Joakim’s blow/severity of damage): +4=10
Nope and Nope. This man was not a trained fighter like Joakim. He had not been alive for training, fighting, or any battles besides this one.
The moment Joakim pushed the shotgun up from the hunter, the man pulled the trigger on reflex. BANG. The shot when up into the air, the muzzle flash singeing Joakim's hair, the bullets hitting nothing but the recoil shook the wind around it, echoing once again, clear across the lake.
The man gasped as Joakim's knife entered him, his gasp became a gargle and he coughed blood, spattering on Joakim's face. A red spot grew at the area that Joakim stabbed, spreading like ink on an empty page.
He slumped against the floor, still gasping for air, still alive...but just barely.
Hunter’s HP: 1/10 [█░░░░░░░░░]
Joakim’s HP: 3/18 [███░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░]
LINCOLN There was a moment of innocent and untouched ecstatic glee on the young boy’s face. It was a look of a child who had not realized the severity of the situation and have not seen the blood on the floor from Joakim’s injuries or the dirty, beaten face of his sister. And then all the imagery hit him like a sobering wave and his smile vanished.
“Wait! Aaron, stop!” He heard Lincoln call.
Aaron jerked back to Lincoln like a rebounding rubber band and fell on to the floor that he was pulled into. Under Lincoln, the boy felt light, like a fragile bird, much lighter than one would expect. He turned to the apprentice, his green eyes wide and terrified, searching for the answer to what he saw in Lincoln’s face. What should we do? What is happening? His confusion and fright was palpable in his expression.
“I-but-she-lincoln-” The boy stammered as he sort out his thoughts until finally- “...Hide and seek.” He repeated Lincoln’s words, his voice quieted down to the apprentice’s instructions. Lincoln is the adult, he would know what to do. And he knew how to play this game. They were the only thing that he can hang on to now. “What’s happening? Who’s that man?” Aaron whispered urgently, referring to Joakim. “We have to save Jenny. It’s not safe! Where’s dad??” His voice was almost a squeak now, like a little mouse against the grass and Lincoln then-
BANG. Another shot echoed across the lake, coming from where Joakim was. There was a flash of muzzle fire in the trees where he lounged at.
HENG, WINONA The panther chased down the same path Winona choose, its paws hot on Winona’s heal. One might even hear it growling as it approached the apprentice...but when given the opportunity to pounced or jump at Winona, it never did. Instead, around the spot where Joakim and Esther separated from Heng and Winona, the panther slowed to a stop.
It gave a look at Winona and for a moment, it looked like it was about to chase after her. The big cat’s body tensed as it fought against all instincts and then raised its head as if it was trying to catch a scent in the air. After a moment, it turned its head and looked over to a gap in the bushes next to the path. The place where Joakim haphazardly walked through with Esther to get to the lake. With a leap, it darted off through that direction-
BANG. Another shot suddenly echoed the gardens, this time much closer, coming from where the panther leapt, where Esther and Joakim parted ways with the rest of the party.
ESTHER ((Ah sorry Copper! You are suppose to meet Lily/inkie, but I haven’t been very good at keeping her alerted. ;v; Let me set up the scene for both of you guys though.))
The HQ was in the dead of night, the only thing that seemed to be keeping vigil over the fields was the moon hanging overhead like a large lantern. The silence in the air was almost shocking; the HQ ran 24/7 but Esther found the most quiet time.
In the grand entrance, there were a few apprentices idly chatting and burning the midnight oil. Most of them looked like gardeners on the down time, full-time reapers taking breaks, or house keepers. A few of them gave Esther a startled look as she passed who was completely wet from the lake.
The medic’s room was also open 24/7 and almost never empty. When Esther walked in still, there was a few apprentice being treated. One moaning over a sprained ankle and being wrapped up by a medic who had a look of draining patience on his face. Another was tending to a broken arm. And the last medic almost ran straight into Esther as she was heading out the door. She was holding a metal tray of medical equipment and they jiggled as she made an abrupt stop at the door.
“What is your emergency?” She said, quickly setting down the tray after catching the look of urgency on Esther’s face. Her words was lightly tinted with an accent. The medic looked young, a teenager, but almost everyone looked young in the HQ. She had dark skin and wore her brunette hair in a tight bun while her hazel eyes quickly searched Esther for injuries.
A few of the apprentices at the grand entrance started to gather at the medic's door, wondering what was the matter. ·

The shot made him wince from how loud and how close it was to him, but nothing could compare to how the blade sank into the Hunter's flesh. Blood splattered on his face.It was warm, just as it should. Just like his own. A smirk spread across his lips, fangs bared at the slumped Hunter at his feet, "Nej, nej..." he growled, yanking the knife out of the man's body and gripping the collar of his shirt.
He had to pause to catch his breath, though the adrenaline surging through his veins helped dull the pain somewhat. He could feel his grip on the shotgun in his free hand slipping, but he held on to it.
"We're not done yet..." turning slightly, the redhead dragged the wounded Hunter step by painful step towards the lake. He stopped before he got too close, though.
"How do we get the girl here?" he snarled, slowly lifting the Hunter by his shirt, "Talk. You still have to show us what's in the lake, after all... What did you call it?"
His vision was doubling, and he could feel his strength waning. The Hunter needed to hurry up and talk before someone has to come reap him, or before Joakim slips into unconsciousness, whichever came first.

He flinched and ducked at the sound of the gunshot, and peeked once again above the grass as the sound echoed away into the silent of the night. The man was down, and the red-head was still standing. Was the man dead...? Lincoln shifted, propping himself up on his knees, straightening his back and extending it like a meerkat peering over sand dunes. He watched as the viking dragged the gunman away to the edge of the lake, talking in pain.
Certain of the situation at hand, Lincoln took Aaron's hand and quietly walked over to them. It was safe to say the men were now unarmed, and there was no immediate threat. A few steps away from them, he stopped. Was the man this boy's father? Was it wise to lead a dead boy see his father's...death? Lincoln could barely see the shimmering of the man's thread...was it red? Or was that the blood playing tricks on his eyes? Joakim was asking the man about the child in the middle of the pond, and what was in the water.
Lincoln kept a light hold on Aaron, giving his hand a small squeeze of reassurance, wondering if this was a good decision or otherwise. At the very least, Joakim was asking the man about how to get to the girl on the island, and if things went bad, Lincoln knew he could tackle it head-on.

More often than not Inkidortes would be asleep at this time, catching up on years and years of sleep deprivation. However, tonight was not that night, as her bed was lacking at the moment, and she had a reap order to complete. Inkidortes strode down the halls of HQ, nearing the medic’s office, briskly making he way out of HQ to pluck a chrysanthemum. Music (if one could label it that) started playing, stopping Inkidortes in her tracks. Inkidortes whipped her head back and forth, searching for the source of the sound. She slid a hand over her back pocket, determining the cursed sound was from her phone. How was this rattle supposed to represent her mood? This piece of hardware and the noises it made were faulty. Furthermore, why did everyone and anyone always text or call or face-shout her when she was going on a reap order? Unhappily she snatched it out of her pocket, turning off the god-awful noise and reading the text message. Her reap-order had been changed. The human who once was fated to die by his own hand now seemed to be dying of blood loss. She wasn’t sure if she should feel sorry for the man. But eh, he was a hunter, so she wouldn’t think about it much. What was of more importance was arriving at the “Haunted Gardens” or whatever the children called them these days. She had a job to do. But...that job would have to wait. Just a bit. The medics office seemed to have drawn some sort of attention. She checked the time on her phone, still gripped awkwardly in her hand. She had a few minutes, she gambled. Just a few… Slipping between (or shouldering through) the gathering, rubber-necking apprentices, Inkidortes quietly approached the center of attention.

There was someone kvetching over their ankle; another person looked as though they had a broken arm. Both were proof of apprenticeship's dangers... or were prone to clumsiness.
Esther didn't get much of a sweep around the room before a medic nearly barreled into her -- the girl's equipment wobbled around a bit as she stopped in her tracks. Esther's urgent look was replaced by an indignant one for the briefest of moments, but quickly settled back into a concerned look. Best to deliver the news so that it got the attention it needed.
"I don't have an emergency." Esther held up her hand. "I just need a bandage for this. And then I require assistance; there is a hunter in the location I returned from. A very armed hunter. He shot the person I was with."
A small gaggle of medics had begun to form. Good. And then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Inkidortes making her way through said gaggle. Even better.
"He had a shotgun." Pause. "We should return to the park with a medic and someone similarly armed. There were others there, as well." She raised her voice a tad bit; hopefully Inkidortes could hear. "I was with four other people, but there might be more that came in after us, or from different directions. All at risk of getting shot. There is a girl chained to a rock as we speak; I don't understand the hunter's intentions, but I'm sure they're not favorable ones. He murdered his own child, years back."
That was enough information for now; hopefully the important parts of the situation had been conveyed.

Heng came to a stop.
The panther was... benign? He moved to stand beside Miss Winona, eye kept on the panther.
“You are alright?" he asked quietly as he lowered his weapon. "I think... something very odd is conspiring," he continued, gesturing towards the panther. It wanted them to follow? With a breath, Heng took careful steps towards it. Wasn't this where the other two split off to go through the woods? Uh... Joakim and Esther?
Bang.
Heng flinched, raising his free hand to his ears. That was uh, close.
"This what you wanted to show me?" he asked the panther, holding his gaze. "What are you?" he whispered. He broke eye contact and looked towards the forest. "I should go there then, shouldn't I?" he said. "Miss Winona, what shall we do?"

Hearing the panther close in made Winona’s heart drop to her knees, eyes beginning to well up with tears. She just didn’t think she could run anymore. She wasn’t prepared to run for very long, and even with her adrenaline pumping, she didn’t have the speed to fully outrun a big cat. Maybe she’d be better off fighting it? Heng surely would have slain it by now, what chance did she have? She gritted her teeth as her running slowed to a stop, crouching to the ground as some sort of defense from the carnivorous beast—
...That didn’t...attack. She slowly looked up, turning around to face the giant black cat. It was actually a ways back, eying the bushes near the path. She tentatively stood up, wiping her face with her sleeve. Wh-what was the darned thing doing? And then it leapt away. She let out a deep sigh of relief, trying to calm her breathing.
“You are alright?"
Startled, her head snapped towards the sudden voice, holding out her scissors in some-sort of threatening manner. Once she realized who the figure was, she lowered her arms, letting out another relieved sigh. “Y-yeah, I’m...fine. It...left me alone.” She said, voice still shaky. Why in the heck did it leave her be? D-did it sense that she wasn’t alive? Could it sense things like that? What the hell was through the bushes? Before she could even get out another word, BANG.
She hugged her arms to herself, taking a few quick steps back. The shooter was right there . No no no no no. She stared towards the bushes, wanting ever so much to run again. She wanted this night to be over.
Heng said something about following the panther, breaking Winona from her daze. “A-Are you screwy?!” She interjected, looking at the guy in disbelief, “Going towards gunshot and a panther?!” She paused, taking a deep breath. It was in her best interests to leave. Get the hell out of there. She wasn’t looking to get shot again, or get mauled by a monster that was definitely still there. But...It didn’t attack her when it could...maybe he was on to something...
“...If...If you think it wants to show us something important, then we should follow it.” She said calmly, holding her scissors like brass knuckles again. “I trust you.” This was harebrained, but...as long as Heng went first.

“Hunter.” Inkidortes zeroed in on the word. The following words cued her in: “girl, rock, hunter, murder, child.” It was enough to make the mental jump that the predicament Ester spoke of was the reap order Inkie had been issued. Just to make sure, however, she asked: “What was the name of the park?”
The worried mumbles and chatter was cut in two by her crisp voice, as the area quieted so the answer could be heard and respect could be given. Though it seemed like Inkidrotes’ full attention was trained on Esther, her mind was racing. Should Ester remain at HQ? She’d be safe, but it would take Inkidortes a considerably longer amount of time to pinpoint the exact location of the commotion without her. Ester would go, then. And a medic should come with them. If the medic Ester had been speaking to did not volunteer, Inkidortes was certainly considering volunteering the girl herself.
As for if things went south and they needed more than just Inkidortes herself for power, well, she’d let Fran handle organizing that. She would sent a text in the near future, but now was time to focus on the girl in front of her.

JOAKIM & LINCOLN The hunter’s breath was ragged and painfully audible. His hands loosen from his gun until it fell limply by his side and dangled. The only one holding up the gun is now Joakim. The hunter made a sound as he was lifted by Joakim’s grip: It was a horrible mix of a laugh and a gag. He gave a mocking smirk with the last of his strength at the apprentice’s questions, flashing him his bloodied teeth.
“...my secret…” He said, his voice rough like sandpaper. It was his last words before unconsciousness took him and he slumped cover, uncaring to Joakim’s words.
From just a little bit away, Aaron’s breath caught at the gunshot and shut his eyes tightly on reflect. Slowly his eyes opened back up wide, looked over to the island where the girl was still at and then turned to Lincoln, searching him for the next plan of action once again. He had ran out of words to say. Perhaps they both did because Lincoln said nothing when he held out his hand. Cautiously, he took it. His grip was hesitant at first but then grew in confidence. Lincoln’s hands were familiar, warm….warmer than anything he felt before in a long time. He clung near the apprentice’s side as if Lincoln would be able to protect him from whatever is going to happen next.
But as they got closer to Joakim and the hunter, Aaron’s tone changed. At first, he didn’t want to go closer, the blood, the gunpowder, the angry notes of Joakim’s voice. Then the boy recognized the man in the dirty, soiled lab coat.
“DAD??!” He cried out as he dropped Lincoln’s hand and ran to Joakim and the hunter. “Let go of him!! Get away from him!” He yelled at Joakim, reaching out to the apprentice’s arms to pull his grip away from his father.
Hunter’s HP: 0/10 (UNCONSCIOUS) [░░░░░░░░░░]
Joakim’s HP: 2/18 [██░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░]
INKIDORTES & ESTHER When Esther raised her hand and declared she needed a bandage for it, the young medic had already grabbed a roll of gauze and bottle of disinfectant and started to work on the wound as Esther talked. By the time Inkidortes got there, Esther’s wound had been taken care of.
There was a crescendo of whispers and gasps at Esther’s words but they were quelled by the commanding presence of the apprentice leader. The growing curious crowd parted ways for her like parting waves.
The young medic looked between Inkidortes and Esther for a moment as she wrapped her head around their words and then quickly ducked over to the back of the room to grab a war beaten medic case. When she came back, she gave Esther and Inkie a curt bow. “My name is Halimah. Show me where I’m needed.” She said to both of them calmly. The words felt practiced and worn in her mouth. These were words she said many times before, both when she was alive and dead.
