Settings: Team Statice Room, 7AM "Old man by Avenue 5?" Grim piped up while he buttoned his crisp shirt from the bottom up. His question was left hanging, or perhaps answered with a silent consent. Either way, he was already laughing. It was a strange thing for him to be up this early and actually seeing the lady preparing herself. She was dabbing that powdery stuff on her face again, he mused. How long has it been? About 3 weeks since he started this occasional breakfast session every few days. It all began when he found that really good pancake down at the small alleyway, and it has been an ongoing craving ever since. At times, he'd go alone to grab some of that heavenly treat, but most of the time, he'd much prefer company to share the honeyed goodness with. And he'd admit, Amsteria was a perfect company. Keeping his back turned from Amsteria, he prompted again, "We've got a good 30 minutes before my shift starts. You're coming, right?" The young man then rolled up his sleeves, more sloppy than not.

The mellow red covered her lips as she finished applying the lipstick, and she glanced at Grim behind her from the reflection of her compact mirror. "Yes, I'm going," she answered again, snapping the compact shut and stowing away her lipstick.
Old man by 5th Avenue, William Enderton. He had a little homey café that served breakfast, lunch and teatime. Sweets handmade, so he said. Pastries baked by his own wife and daughters. Grim suggested that she come visit with him to the joint weeks ago, and technically the place was a good place. People that came in were nice people, greeting the beaming old man behind the counter filled with bagels. "Are you planning on getting the same old pancakes again, Grim?" she asked him idly, stuffing her makeup bag into her designated cubicle box where the team stowed their things.
She figured she could try their more fruity pancake types, with a serving of their homemade ice cream. Amsteria sighs quietly at the idea, and turns around to see Grim finishing up. "30 minutes will fly if you're taking a long while," she remarked.

He gave a low whistle at her answer and pulled at the hem of his shirt before tucking them in as he headed for his sneakers. "You know me. But maybe with whipped cream this time." Grim licked his lips at the imagery, as he slipped on his socks and shoes. Unlike most mornings, he was on cloud nine despite the early awakening. With a loud click, the german was already out the door. "Tsk tsk, look who's talking? Have a sense of urgency~" He added with a teasing tinge.
"His daughter is a feisty girl, but did you know that she stutters when she sees us? The old man tells me that every single time I order. I reckon it's your face. Maybe you ought to smile more!" Grim said, demonstrating a stoic "Amsteria" face before chuckling. The minor details of such memories was what kept the man happy and the medic loved that these little sessions were growing to be part of his routines. It almost made him feel... alive. Picking the chrysanthemums from the field, Grim smiled unconsciously as he grabbed Amsteria by the shoulder and teleported with her upon articulating the location.

Amsteria flushed from Grim's assumed observation, but they were whisked away before she could even retort his statement. A while later they were standing, backs to the wall of the building at the corner of 5th Avenue. The café was just around the corner.
"Maybe the girl was stuttering at you!" she finally hissed at Grim, with narrowed eyes. She was getting used to the blonde's manner of joking. He was one to prod and poke people where they were softest or most uncertain. Amsteria was defensive when he began, considering that people had never dared to poke her so, and she was still defensive at some points in time. There was nothing she could do to help alleviate her unamused, stony expression!
She huffs, but follows him anyway as they made the way to their venue. "There's nothing to debunk her liking you, Grim," Amsteria continued, lightly smirking. "The old man said when you order. Not me," she emphasized. Old man William's daughter was about the young German's age, it was quite a possibility.
"What are you getting this time?" she asked as she pulled the door open. The smell of fresh pastries and the sounds of light chatter and clinking kitchenware floated out from the crevice.

The young man snickered at her belated answer, brushing it off as a mere refute. "It's a good thing to be able to maintain a stern expression. It asserts authority, especially when it is necessary." He commented, with his eyes focused on the road ahead. He could already feel the cold corner turn warm as the tapping of shoes were heard along with small chatters that were growing in volume.
His footsteps couldn't help but hasten with the anticipation of a good meal in the cafe, until his team-mate piped up again. "Are you turning the tables on me?" He asked in a rather spirited tone, absolutely amused by her probing. It was fascinating to see how the lady had picked up on his little teasing habits and used it on him. Even her expression was taunting.
"She's not..." He paused for a bit as he thought of her analysis, and gritted his teeth in annoyance when he couldn't quite refute it. Damn it, she's good with noticing the small details, the medic thought in slight defeat. Coupled with his mannerism, she could truly make him have a taste of his own medicine. "Egal." He added, swerving away from her words. He was here for the desserts, not for the girl after all. If anything, Old man William was the one he'd relate most too, ironically.
"Pancakes with whipped cream and a side of mousse cake. Try the latter, it's pretty rich." He replied, giving a warm smile to the Enderton family who were busy with their orders. Reiterating his order, the german felt hypersensitive to the stuttering young lady, but said nothing. It didn't matter; they couldn't remember the duo despite their frequent visits the past few weeks. Turning to Amsteria, he gave a faint smile before offering, "This time, my treat. Take your pick."

"Well, that's generous of you today. I'll have the strawberry and lemon pancake...with a side of vanilla ice cream," Amsteria relays to the girl. She was not stuttering so badly, but then she was also stealing glances at the blonde across from her whenever she was not focusing on the order. The young lady nodded after reiterating their orders to make sure they were right, and wandered away to get them done.
Amsteria leaned forward slightly on her elbows, prepped up on the table. "It's kind of bittersweet, isn't it?" she started, looking at Grim. "She'd be smitten by you everyday, remember for the rest of the day and then when she wakes up tomorrow she would have no recollection, " she casts a glance at the people passing by. "It reminds me of that movie...'50 first dates' was the title, I think." Chick flicks, was that what they called them? No, no, they were called Romcoms. Amsteria was not that keen on romcoms, actually, but she would watch it if someone else was watching it, too.
"Feelings suspended in time...," she murmurs as she props her chin on her hand. Old man William looked a bit pale today, despite his continuous gestures of beaming at his customers and guffaws of laughter.

The young man leans back on his chair, with a slight smirk hanging on his face. "You're funny." Grim finally spoke lightly, completely out of the context of her observation. His eyes couldn't help but travel to the young Enderton. Her older brother was laughing at her; how peculiar. Why was Amsteria saying all these? Was it a reminder to him?
"I didn't know you were into romcom, Amsteria." His gaze set back to his teammate, almost in a doubtful manner. It's been a while since he saw that one... or any movies besides the recent horror episode.
The medic glanced around some more until Old man William and his daughter presented their breakfast to them with a hearty laugh. With a small word of thanks, he too noticed how the old man looked more sickly. "Take care, old man." He casually remarked, reckoning it was a common cold after he gave a few coughs.

She uttered a thanks and a smile when their plates were laid down before them, and she looked across at Grim. "Ey, I can be funny," she said with a slight curtness, raising her brows and having a small smirk on her face. What was she saying? She can't even crack a joke. She coughed the smirk off and focused on the pancakes in front of her. Golden disks of flour and fruit. It did look quite nice.
"Do you suppose it's about time for the cold season, doctor?" Amsteria asked nonchalantly as she cut through her pancakes, turning them into smaller slices that won't look too awkward to put in her mouth. The other patrons seem to be as jovial as they were, and it was late summer, so she logically deduced that it was not really the season to be cold. Putting the handle of her fork to her chin, she falls into thought as she chewed.

He gave a small smile, pleased that Amsteria was somewhat in a pleasant mood. The feeling of happiness is contagious, it seems. Picking up the cutleries, he slowly slice the round pancake and dipped it in the honey cup for every single buttered goodness. He never forgets to; the honey was the highlight and brings out the best flavour in the fluffy pancakes. Yes, this was worth waking up early for. "It isn't... at least not here. I can't say for certain since different countries experience different weathers at different times of the day." Glancing up, he chuckled at how Amsteria had called him doctor. He was hardly called that outside of his office and it sounded a tad strange. Bzz...Bzz... His phone vibrated on the table, requesting attention. The young man would've ignored it if not for the second vibration that came shortly after. "...Hang on." Grim gave a short laugh before falling silent at the messages received, reading with concentration. [ 12.04P.M. ENDERTON W. ...Avenue 5
...Your shift slot has been moved to 5PM....] His face remained calm, while he chewed slowly on the bite of pancake in his mouth. There was a slight pause before Grim scrolled down further, opening the second subsequent message even slower than before.[ ...paired with AMSTERIA GIDEON...]There was a soft clink as he poked another piece of the pancake and popped it directly in his mouth. It was bland, and it took a few seconds before he realised that he had missed the honey. With a quick lock, he pulled the bitten fork away from his lips and rested the phone back on the table with a smile. "Sorry 'bout that. Where were we?" It was only a matter of time before the relay message reaches Amsteria, but the young man still held a small hope that they can have a good breakfast first at least. The messages were usually sent closer to the actual hour, but perhaps this was sent prematurely to inform him of his change in slots too.

Amsteria glanced at the blonde as he apologized to attend to his phone. It was probably work-related, considering how serious he stared at it with. Grim even missed dipping his pancake in honey. She continued to watch him as she chewed slowly for a while, before returning back to her pancakes and cutting out another piece. She heard him settle his phone back onto the table, and looked back at him.
"Your medic job calling?" Amsteria asked, jabbing at the ice cream side-dish with her spoon, pulling off some of it and ingesting it. She wouldn't mind if he had to go to attend to his business. The tasks his position called for was a lot more important than the mapping she had to do. She frowned slightly as she cut her pancake again. That would be quite a waste of pancake if Grim left now. Hopefully he would just swallow them all like a whale swallowing plankton. Amsteria keeps her gaze on the blonde as she chewed on some strawberries.

As Grim took another bite of his food, his eyes couldn't help but glue themselves on the oldest Enderton. It felt a little sickening to be reaping someone who made you breakfast the very same morning. Even worse when the german knows of his demise story. Stay professional, he reminded himself as he cut the remaining slices into smaller ones. It was rather obvious how much his eating pace had slowed down, but he might as well salvage whatever he had left. Besides, they had a few crucial hours to witness his final moments, regardless of how unwilling the reaper may be.
"My shift has been postponed, I guess I'll be staying a little longer." His voice sounded a little deeper and more serious than he expected, and he had to repeatedly urge himself to focus. At least it wasn't a lagged answer, the medic took light in that fact. Hopefully it wasn't too suspicious. Noticing that Amsteria had been staring for a while, he simply flashed a confident grin at his team-mate before trying his best to eat larger mouths of pancakes. "What is it? Do you want a bite?" Grim offered, almost in a teasing manner as he dipped the same squarish slice in honey repeatedly.
Sometimes, the lady was oddly observant at the most inconvenient times.

His answer brought a small sense of relief, a greenlight for them to dawdle on their food in the café. As Amsteria reached out for another bit of ice cream, her phone buzzed in her waist pocket. She paused momentarily, spoon in air, so close to the dairy. How coincidences continue to happen, she mused as she set her cutlery down and fished her phone out. The preface of the text was a reap order, and she frowned at it. As much as she'd strive to do her job, she'd much rather do paperwork. Nonetheless, she opened the text to see who was the poor soul that was to retire today.
A moment of hushed reading later, she glanced up at Grim. Most certainly the message he got was related to this reap, considering how disturbed he seemed to be. Closing her messaging app, she scrutinizes the time on the device. 8.30 am. They had a good 3 hours before the old man met his demise. For her, that would mean she'd be staying in the café to see how it would unfold. Closing her phone and setting it on her table, she jabbed at the ice cream and took the chunk she had postponed.
"Think less of the future, and focus on the present, doctor," Amsteria said in a soft tone.

Watching Amsteria fish out her phone, Grim fixed his gaze solely back on his pancake. With much considerations on the current mood and their breakfast, he wondered how he should go about. Should he continue to smile and pretend nothing's up? Was there even merit in that since Amsteria is already aware of the following event? Biting on the inside of his cheek, he poked several slices of pancakes in one go and sank them in the honey cup. Never once did he look at her expression.
Her words were sound advice, but the cheery atmosphere was gone. The contrast between the two and their surrounding seemed to amplify in his mind. "You're right, but I've lost my appetite." He grunted a little, stuffing the over-dipped pancakes in his mouth. Chewing begrudgingly, he leaned on his propped up arm with an expression like a child who was forced to eat their greens. What a way to start the day. This was why they shouldn't have any lingering thoughts on the living, the young man thought silently to himself. "Egal." He muttered, running a hand through his hair. It was inevitable.
Straightening up, he opted to finish his meal still. It would be a waste of good cakes otherwise. Cutting lightly from the top of the mousse cake, he savoured the taste. "The cake's good. It's mostly sweet with a hint of bitterness from the dark chocolate sprinklings on top." He critiqued in a light tone before pushing the dish to the centre. "Try some, really." He finally glance up, leaning forward with expectations and a small warm smile.

A hint of bitterness, eh?
How coincidences occur... she mused, as she took her unused ice cream spoon and cut herself a suitable chunk from the cake slice. Grim had a point; it was indeed what he described it to be. A bit too rich for her, maybe. If she had to have one of these slices, she could skip lunch. She sighed quietly as she prodded her ice cream again. "It does taste good," Amsteria admitted, and paused to roll the ice cream in her mouth. "Perhaps a kind of light drink with it would go well?"
There was no lifting the mood now. Although the patrons around them were still happily taking in the sweet delicacy the café had to offer, she could no longer take another bite of the pancake on her plate as a joy. Instead, it became a chore. To put up an act so that the old man wouldn't be offended in his final hours by the actions of people he wouldn't even remember.
"Are you planning to hang around here, Grim?" she asks after a few minutes of silent pancake stabbing. "It's quite some time before it happens, and I tend to stick around to see how it went about." If he wanted to do something else, she wouldn't mind, but she hoped that he would prefer to do it alone.

Taking another mouth of the rich chocolate, Grim sighed before nodding slightly. There were a few more bites between the silence of the two as they carried on with their meal, restraining their emotions that inevitably affected them.
"I'll be outside. I need a stick." He stated softly, resting the fork on the empty porcelain plate with only chocolate smudge and a few crumbs. Glancing back at the old, frail man, the medic caught sight of the young lass who was still staring at both of them. 3 hours is a long time. "Do you want to follow me?" The german offered, eyes on William's daughter who quickly looked away upon realising. "...she's still looking at us." The medic added before stashing away his phone. It wouldn't be pleasant to be distracting others and hoarding the tables inside if he wasn't eating a main course. Perhaps a drink, like Amsteria had suggested, could allow for both of them to linger around as they watch things unfold from a distance. Afterall, he saw no reason to leave entirely and his partner was keen to stay on as well.
Standing up slowly, he strolled over to William with some heavy steps before requesting to pay at a later time and ordered an iced cherry spritzer to the table outside of their small cottage-like shop. Grim then promptly gestured to the outdoors to Amsteria, moving over to said seat with a lit cigarette hanging from his lips.
