"It doesn't feel right to be here."
The words couldn't leave his lips. Fair share of reaping, but one of the few funerals he attended. Strange ceremony, he might add, since they chugged corpses like excessive waste into the soil in times of war. What difference was there with this one? Brushing off that uncomfortable feeling, he continues with a smile, "I want a cup of coffee to get rid of the buzzing in my head." Enderton's coffee was always freshly brewed with an aromatic scent that lingered within the vicinity of the store. It's a pity that he won't be drinking that...
"Do you want anything?" He prompted, eyes focused on Amsteria. She seems detached... w-which is a good thing, he supposed. He then reminded himself that unlike him, half of his peers don't wear their hearts on their sleeves. She is silent and has always been so; would she be feeling down inside? Maybe she was delicate at heart? There was a surge of impulse and perhaps a pinch of misunderstood empathy that he considered quite seriously before giving her a very brief hug.

Amsteria stiffened, surprised by the brief moment of closeness from her teammate. As he stepped away, she shuddered as if to shake off the cooties the young man could have had...if cooties were real. "What was that for?" she asked, looking at him with a stern gaze. Was he worried that she could have gotten cold from the rain? Was he going to stick something on her back? She held back the urge to reach around to her back and patting her back just in case.
"I think I'm fine," Amsteria answered, "probably some warm drink, but otherwise I'm fine." She looked back at the rain and the entrance gates to the cemetery. "But if you're looking for a drink, then perhaps we could prowl the streets. It's not too early, there're bound to be some cafés just starting up." She gestured to him to follow her out to the street, looking out for a café open to patrons at this hour.

The young man held a very daze feeling, as he blinked several times before shrugging. "You seem like you needed that." He considered what he said, and how strange that came out. Ah, egal. He wasn't wrong... it was pretty odd of her to willingly get drench in the rain that day.
With another light shrug, his faint smile dropped to a neutral expression. "I know of a cafe... just a street down Enderton's." He hesitantly suggested, staring at Amsteria. It was hard to read her expression and that bugged him a little.
"Are both of you here for the funeral? It's about to start..."
A familiar voice was heard as he spun around. Lo and behold, it was Enderton's eldest son. After about 10 minutes, he finally noticed both the apprentices with their close proximity. With a light nod, the medic gave a brief glance over to Amsteria. Maybe later then. "Don't worry 'bout ze drink." Grim muttered under his breath, as the duo followed along with Dominic Enderton's invitation.

The funeral progressed quietly, the light pattering of the rain a sombre background orchestra.
Soon the eulogies were complete, the last words of the living said and the crowd then dispersed. Amsteria hung back from actively socializing with the people there, nodding politely and leaving the talking to Grim. For all they know, she was the German's sister, or cousin. Amsteria noted, that for a man who had a jovial cafe, his funeral was attended by his immediate family, close friends and a few regulars. Friends in life were never necessarily friends in death.
For a while, she lingered at the casket, with it's decorative bouquet sitting on top it, its bright flowers a stark contrast to the gloomy weather and atmosphere. Her parents and grandparents had a similar kind of funeral, the flowers were different but the colours were similar. Always bright to offset the mood, as if enlightening the living of their passage. She wondered if they had the same thing when she died. She turned back to Grim, standing a bit behind her with the umbrella open to catch the rain.
"This weather isn't letting up anytime soon, eh?"

"It isn't." He glanced up to the stormy clouds. Several of the attendees were grieving at their loss, and he gave his condolences. Grim thought, the least he could do was to empathise with them. Thus, the young man stood with his head drooped, absorbed in the sombre atmosphere. From his position, he could tell that the Enderton family was drained. His son's eyes were bloodshot and his posture was slouched, despite how often he tried to straighten up in this formal event. His daughter wasn't crying anymore, but her eyes were swollen with a blank gaze that reflected little light. She looked emaciated, energy stripped from her. Even during her brother's eulogy, he could tell she was losing concentration half the time.
Taking a step back, he realised that Amsteria herself was pretty much drawn into the depressive atmosphere as well. Deep in her own thoughts too, it seems. The german was slowly spacing out as the casket was lowered into the wet soil.
"We should go..." He finally spoke with every word getting more inaudible. The sinking mood was choking him and seeing people sob was tugging on his heartstrings. He fumbled as he took out his handkerchief, wiping the splattering raindrops from the sides off his face.

She glanced away from the casket at Grim, noticing the drop in the volume of his voice. His expression betrayed his current mindset, him dabbing at his face more so. "I guess we should," she answered with concern, "maybe we should drop by a place, somewhere downtown. Get some warm chocolate or something." Amsteria glanced up at the departing crowd of grievers. Perhaps it was better they detached themselves from the living for the rest of the day. She pulled out her flower and began plucking it.
"Or even better, let's just go get something on the Death plane," Amsteria continued. "We shouldn't relate too close to those left behind." It sounded cold, but she felt it was appropriate for their nature of work.

"You're right..." He replied softly, feeling a little bleak. He sniffled before walking along with Amsteria, trying to collect his thoughts again. This was probably why he never attended funerals; the grieving can be rather overwhelming and emotionally taxing. As they walked, the young man promptly halted and said, "Amsteria, wait for me here. Stay under the tree..." With that, he took off his blazer and draped it over the lady's head before striding back to the lamenting siblings.
"This belongs to you. Thanks for ...everything; he's in a better place. I'm certain of it." Then, the young german closed the umbrella and solemnly handed it back to them with a sincere bow. With a half-hearted smile, he bid farewell before brisk walking back to his teammate.
"I'm better now. Let's head back." He reassured with slight confidence as water dripped off the edges of his blonde locks. The rain was getting heavier and it was prime time for both of them to return since they returned the umbrella.

With a blazer on her head, Amsteria watched as Grim returned the umbrella. Did he take it from their café? She supposed it was the case when the brother opened it and sheltered his sister from the rain. At least they had an umbrella each, now, she mused, as Grim came back dripping wet. This blazer on her head barely had any effect, to be frank.
"Nothing wrong with dancing in the rain, Grim," she remarked, taking the blazer off and handing it back to him. "It's not like we would get a cold from this, would we?" Before he could reply, she plucked of the last few petals and opened the portal near the tree, through which she ushered Grim and herself through. It was a jarring contrast, from wet weather to a lighter, brighter day. She felt clammy now, with her wet suit and wet hair. Perhaps they should change first before getting the beverages, or just get a beverage from the vending machine then slack in their own teamroom. Amsteria breathed a light sigh and glanced at Grim as she squeezed some water out of her hair.
"What did you say to them back there?" she was curious, but if he did not want to mention it, she didn't mind. Some opinions and ideas are better left unsaid, after all.

Watching her squeeze water out of her hair was a rather good distraction from the depressive events of the day. It was pretty amusing, he'd admit. He simply shook his head and ran a hand through his blonde strands to rid some of the rainwater. The german still felt as though he had went for a run. Gleaming, the young man answered, "I asked Vivian out on a date." There was an innate need to crack a joke, to ease himself off the sunken tension. He then laughed at his own absurdity, before correcting his words, "I'm kidding, I just thanked them for.. well, various things." There was a very small, but honest smile that hung on his face.
The change in atmosphere really did wonders.
"Drinks or change?" He asked lightly, squeezing water from his blazer. Man, if his blazer was already this wet, then... Glancing back up at Amsteria, he prompted before breaking eye contact, "We... better get you changed up."

"Ha ha," Amsteria laughed sarcastically, "I almost believed you for a moment. You do need a girlfriend, after all!" she added, crossing her arms at him. She followed Grim's gaze down to her drenched clothing. "Hmmmm," she murmured as she weighed how decent she would look by the time they got to whichever café on the Plane they planned to visit. Her outfit would probably not dry out enough for it to not look like she swam in a pond with fish. Sighing, she puts her hands up in a gesture of mock defeat. "Fine, fine," she relented, "I'll go get changed first. Maybe we should just get a drink from the vending machine."
They made their way back to their dorm room, where Amsteria got her towel and proceeded to wash off and change into a lighter blouse and trousers. The funeral and the event from days earlier were already fading, washed away by the rain, the shower and the good weather in the Plane. Washing away the humane feelings of sympathy, empathy and the notion that such things did not need to happen. As Amsteria rubbed her hair in her towel to drain out the moisture, she reminded herself internally that there were some things they should never question.
"So," she started, glancing at the reflection of Grim in the mirror as she bothered her hair, "drinks at the vending machine?"

He merely snickered at her snide remark and brushed it off. What was this talk about girlfriends anyway? If anything, it looked like she needed a partner more, given her age. Pulling on his damp shirt, he too, figured that he should change out. Unlike what she suggested, it was very common for apprentices to catch a cold. The only upside is that they recover relatively speedy too.
The moment he got to the room, the young man went straight for a towel and began to dry his hair. With a quick check of his watch, he realised it was already 10.14AM and the room was empty. He considered bathing, but he had little energy or motivation to move himself. Leaning by the window seat, he bask in the warm sun for a bit, partially drying his clothes as he recollected the events of the week. It took less than 3 minutes before he fell asleep from mental exhaustion.
...And awakened by the entrance of a fresh and clean Amsteria. "You're fast." He commented, rubbing his eyes before heading over to his drawers. His shirt was already dried (and wrinkly), but he opted to switch out from the fabric that still held the lingering smell of wet grass and rain. "You got it. 3-in-1 Coffee sounds good, I'm still lacking my caffeine." He replied, loosening his tie and slipping off said shirt before changing into a black print tee. Colours don't really appeal on a mourning day like this and he was done with formalities for the day.
10.45AM. I wonder how the Endertons are doing... With a quick turn, he slumped down on Joakim's bed as he waited for fair-haired lady to finish drying her hair. Grim had a fairly carefree schedule for the day, and he was down with just easing the pressure by slacking off.

Amsteria shrugged at Grim's observation. "It's somewhat standard speed? I don't think I can stand being in a shower for an hour...," she murmured as she recalled her previous teammate, who would wake up late, shower forever and end up going to work late. Amsteria was least fond of that person, so she ended up not really communicating with them.
"A 3-in-1 cup of coffee, huh?" she repeated his preference. The vending machine would have that, for certain. She turned to the german, all prepped up on Joakim's bed, already looking through his smartphone. He didn't seem to be too keen on moving. Maybe this time, she'll just go and get the drinks and leave him in the room. Straightening her hair out, she mumbles a "I'm going out" as she stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her.
The vending machine wasn't a fussy thing, and a few minutes of waiting on the drinks, she came back with a pair of steaming cups. One was hot chocolate -for herself- and the other the instant coffee Grim pined for. Closing the team room door with her foot, she walks over and hands the coffee to the German.

"Mmm." He simply hummed in agreement to her shower note. A light buzz on his phone showed a fresh message from Vivian Enderton. Thanks for coming down to pay their last respects, huh? Pausing for a bit, he twiddled his thumbs before tapping away at the digital keys.
He didn't even notice the lady leaving, until a shadow covered his screen. Tilting his head up, he gave his word of thanks, smiling warmly as he took the cup of coffee with much gratitude. It was pretty unexpected for Amsteria to help him, but it was a really nice gesture. Sipping slowly on the hot coffee, Grim glanced back at his team-mate, casually asking, "Do you have anything you want to say to the Endertons?" Upon his question, the german eyed his device as a signal that he was texting them.

She looked at him through the light steam of her cup of tea. To the old man's daughter, she was probably an acquaintance of Grim, making it an acquaintance of an acquaintance. In essence, she was just an acquaintance.
"No," Amsteria answered, blowing into her tea. There was nothing for her to say that would give any amount of significant impact to the girl or her family. Grim was the main player in this little game, the one that was deemed as the 'goal'. She was just the bystander, outside looking in. "You could build up some sort of excuse, yanno," she continued after a few sips, still looking at Grim and his device. "That you were only there for the funeral, and had to go away to return to some country where you work." The hot tea slightly burning her lips were a contrast to the cold words that were said, but if Grim were to argue, it was a reasonably logical decision.
Then again, maybe she could give in and let him have a girlfriend. As the burn on her lips pass, she grabs the small table they had and rolled it close to her side by the window seat, and set the hot cup on the table.

The german chuckled lightly at her suggestion and shook his head, typing lightly on the keys.
[It's nothing, do take care of your family and yourself.]
This team-mate of his... was thinking too much into this small affair, he observed the lady with much amusement. He had the urge to tease the office lady to preoccupy herself with a man instead, but he restrained himself. With that, he stashed away his phone and focused on his coffee. As he sipped the drink with much needed comfort, he muttered, "Let's go there again someday..." He began to ponder on more peripheral thoughts like report writing and what-nots. Since Amsteria had done the reaping, Grim puts it upon himself to finish up on the paperworks at a later time.
That's about it. Leaning on the bunk wall, he adjusted his glasses before spacing out.
