Sienna seemed alright. Or at least, she was trying to be alright. And to Owen, that was alright.
She called out at the sight of her beloved pink bird, and Owen turned to look. There it was. There was a pool at the far side of the room, and standing in the water was a grand flamingo. Alongside it stood other smaller pondside birds, somewhat grand in their own little way, but it was definitely outshone by brilliant pink.
Owen extended his hand. Sienna looked too scared to approach it on her own, so he'd take her there instead. He looked her in the eye, and then his gaze settled on the palm of his hand, fingers covered in neon plasters - like usual.

Sienna was tempted to simply watch the bird from afar. It was just so beautiful and the smaller birds made it even more striking. But they'd' come all this way and she'd wasted Owen's time already. it would be even worse to stop at the end and turn back. As she deliberated Owen's outstretched hand caught her attention. or well, the wildly colored band-aids did. What? Did he get injured this much on the job? He looked up at her and then down to his open palm again and she figured it out pretty quickly. A small, sad smile twitched her lips up just a little as she took his hand as gently as she could. Now they could go see the flamingo and she wouldn't have to be too afraid of whatever was gonna happen. Though she did decide she'd rather not see him have to get a new band-aid while she was here.

He felt her hand slip into his and he held tight. Owen walked her over to the pond, looking at birds along the way, silently asking them to clear the path for them walking through. Most cooperated, some stubborn ones made them stop for bursts at a time. It didn't matter. Owen still calmly waited till they moved out of the way. They didn't halt them for too long, anyway.
Once they reached the pond, Owen stepped into the water. It came up to his ankles, and looking down, he realised Sienna was wearing shoes. "Do you want to come?" he asked. "I can make it come instead." he continued, looking away towards the flamingo.

The walk to the pond was slow but steady. and amusing to some degree. Some of the birds seemed to refuse to allow them passage and stalled their movements as much as possible. But for the most part the feathered creatures moved at what seemed to be some silent form of communication she couldn't begin to describe. It was rather fascination and had she not been a few feet away from a flamingo she might have asked how he was doing it. Finally they had arrived. the large bird was within reach and she was so nervous she had her free hand practically weaved into her braid which was now ruined from her antics.
"Oh uh no I want... I want to come to." Because she'd always imagined water in her dreams of meeting a flamingo face to face. Just before she stepped in with him though she kicked off her loafers. They were such old shoes but so well worn she hadn't the heart to part with them. She loved the feel of wearing something in to a point where it became a part of you. She hated buying new clothes most of the time and relished the clothes she'd been wearing for decades as long as they would last. Finally free she dipper her feet into the water and tightened her hand on Owen's already firm grip. "I... I-I'm ready." She announced trying to sound braver than she felt.

Sienna seemed to beam as she stepped into the water. Her hand tightened around his, and he led her slowly towards the flamingo. He looked over and waded in quietly. Once he was close enough, he called out to the flamingo.
"Hello." was all he said. Some birds turned around, though not the right one. "Hello." he said again. And the flamingo turned around. The pink bird looked around curiously, letting out a call of its own as it noticed the pair of humans in their midst. Well. One of them was human, one of them was something else a little more familiar.
He looked at Sienna once more before leading her over. With his free hand he put it up in front of the bird, before slowly putting it down on its feathers. The flamingo saw the action and accepted it. It crowed again and looked at Sienna with its beady eyes. "Say hello," Owen said.

Sienna waited with baited breath as Owen greeted the bird. She was praying so hard that it was a nice bird, like some of the others. Of course even if it was nice to him it hardly meant it would be nice to her. But she couldn't dwell on that. The flamingo didn't respond at first but a second attempt got it's attention and it called back it's on hello causing the dark skinned woman to smile wide as it looked their way. The large bird even let Owen pet it. Nothing bad happened and there was no biting fingers or any of that kind of thing. Instead it looked to her next and called out once more. It was her turn she supposed.... still clutching to Owen's hand like a lifeline she spoke up softly. "H-hello.. y-your beautiful." She said, dipping her head in respect before she realized what she was even doing. A sheepish smile inched across her face as she repeated her guide's actions and held her hand before the bird and then finally, with much anticipation reached down to touch those gloriously pink feathers.

The bird seemed to accept Sienna, though it did so with an unexpected caw. Perhaps its own way of saying hello. Owen gave a small chuckle with a tiny, rare smile - a twitch of the lips that could barely be called a smile - seeing the woman in such glee at meeting one. They were beautiful birds, and he didn't find people's awe over them anything surprising.
The flamingo twisted its head a bit, looking down at the hand that was petting it. It weaved back to look at the two of them, blinking quietly. Its feathers ruffled and it stuck its head under its wing, scratching at it.

Sienna looked a touch alarmed at the surprise caw but didn't make any sudden movements. She knew how some animals could be if you moved too fast. And so instead she held her ground and continued to run her fingers across the feathers. The contrast in color next to her skin was so amazing. She paused when the flamingo gave her hand a look and then ducked it's head under it's wing. She giggled softly and pulled her hand back to allow the animal to do it's thing but looked terribly pleased to have been able to touch the bird.
She glanced to Owen finally wondering if he was having fun to. Who wouldn't? She'd remember this moment for eternity and she had Owen to thank for it. For now she was just beside herself to be so close and watching it go about it's daily routine.

The flamingo carried on with its business, ignoring them. It looked away for a moment, back to Sienna, before flying off. It splashed a bit of water their way, but nothing too drastic. It joined a few other flamingos in the distance.
"Tidy?" he asked, smiling with his eyes. "It looks like it was tidy fun for you."

Sienna watched as the flamingo looked her way and then flew of to join a whole mess of them a good distance away. Smiling she waved as it left and turned to Owen as he said something that sounded odd to her ears, Tidy? As in clean? As in.... oh..." Taking it into the contest of the sentence she understood what he was saying now. "Yeah. very tidy. Thank you... for..w-well this." She looked to the birds and back to him. "Is um... is it okay if I s=stop by sometimes?" She asked holding her free hand half in front of her mouth in a failed attempt t hide her smile. She'd really had a lot of fun.

"You can stop by sometimes." He smiled with his eyes, voice bright and pleasant. "You're welcome." He couldn't help but twitch a small smile after hers. Sienna looked so happy! His face returned to its blank state soon after. "Stop by sometimes then."

Sienna nodded, smiling behind her hand as Owen agreed with her desire to visit more. The flamingos of course were the reason but Owen was as well. And was that a smile? As a shy person herself she could appreciate a smile where they rarely came. "Okay, I'll v-visit sometimes." She replied with a nod and waited patiently for him to lead her out. She was certainly glad she'd come and knowing flamingos came here was such a wonderful surprise. There wasn't much else to say at this point so she would simply swing their joined hands softly as she reminisced about pretty pink flamingos and rare, but adorably small Owen smiles.

He let out a hum of approval and took her back outside. Sienna looked like she had a good time and he was happy to let her have it. Perhaps again, sometime soon.
Till next time, he figured, looking back to the flock of flamingos as the two walked outside.
