Despite his quick, agile movements, coupled with accurate striking at just the right spots, sometimes...sheer brute strength overpowers even the most nimble of fighters. With a heavy, powerful swing made possible by his immense strength and muscle control, Joakim launched a powerful blow using his sword, aimed for Fran's side. As he twirled deftly to block the blow from Joakim, a thought occurred to him that this strike could very well splinter and break his staff cleanly in two...meaning an easy victory for his old friend. Did he want that?
...of course he didn't, came the instinctive answer as a daring smirk spread across his face. Putting as much momentum into a spin as he could, he let his right oblique absorb part of the blow from Joakim's wooden sword, while his own wooden staff ate most of the damage, a horrible splintering and cracking sound, coupled with a loud thwack against Fran's side resounding through the gym. Quickly twirling himself out of harm's way, he didn't so much as wince from the throbbing in his side, but instead flashed a challenging smirk at Joakim.
"That....could very well have been your finishing blow, Yoyo my friend~" he chuckled as he flipped stray bangs of silver from his face, spinning the damaged wooden staff in his hands as he cautiously took a few steps back, assessing the situation and planning his next path of attack. "Let's see whether you'll land another lucky blow~" he teased, as a swift wrist flick and a single step forward indicated the initiation of his counter attack. Lunging forward in a zigzag, unpredictable fashion, light as a feather on his feet, Fran put himself back in range of Joakim's sword, at the same time swiping several blows aimed for the already weakened part of the splintering wood.
