Ah the garden. Other than his studio it one of the only places that he was really relaxed. No one he knew had any idea he worked part time in the dirt. Not that he'd care he supposed but it was kind of fun being under cover to some degree. Donning a scarf on his head as well as some over-sized shades he almost looked like he belonged there as he lifted a pile of weeds he'd gotten rid of and moved to toss them. His usual posh, immaculate clothing was dirty, grungy and hardly the norm for the fashion forward fiend.
Once he'd unloaded his cargo he smacked his gloved hands together to rid them of any debris. After that he rested them on his hips and turned to survey his work. It was looking good. He generally took whatever jobs he could, being a part timer he didn't get much say in the jobs left over. But he didn't mind and did each job happily. The flowers now looked a lot brighter, more free even as they were now released form the choke hold the weeds had been ensnaring them with.
But he'd finished his job a bit early so he was glancing around to see if anyone needed help.

This was her element. And this was her sanctuary.
Some habits died hard and some never bothered to rid of themselves at all, such as in the case with Rayen. Since she was little, gardening had been a hobby of hers, later a profession in her --while very brief--young adulthood, and now even after death. Whomever coined the term "'Til the Very End" possibly never considered the ironic circumstances that there was an "after the end". Still, it deterred her none, rather it calmed her very much. Even as a job for Death knows how long she'd be here doing reaping orders, as far as Rayen was concerned, keeping watch over the chrysanthemums and letting them flourish to their great potential was her real job.
They reminded her of home. They reminded her back to a simpler time where she could spend all day outside in a garden--be it her own or her commissioner's--and have the self satisfaction of a job well done when everything was neatly maintained. There were a few gardeners she had noticed that seemed to share the same values, others, she couldn't tell exactly. While therapeutic, it could become mundane for the average person to the point where their mind would wander and be far from reality. Imaginations or dedications considered, Rayen still kept to herself most of the time. Only exchanging words in brief passing to the other gardeners such as figuring out who tended to which acre, or was responsible for maintaining the tools and such. At least, on a normal day.
However, today was not a normal day since technically speaking, Rayen had the day off.
But even if habits died with the person or continued on (she was really confused on how that worked), Rayen would easily wander to a patch of the gardens and begin tending. It was a vast field as far as the eye could see and while no one had bothered to mention that working during her off time was allowed, Rayen found no harm done. Every little bit of help counts.
And speaking of help, she noticed a figure walking aimlessly through the parted paths, as though they were searching. Even with the floppy straw sunhat upon her head, Rayen still had to squint through the sun's light, it's brightness only rivaled through her memories of a very hot midday July in Florida. Their form shimmered within the rays' heat, so Rayen stood, wiping the dirt from her hands and fingernails onto her paisely printed overalls and waved. First formally as a greeting, then as a gesture to come over. The more the merrier.
While normally shy, the gardens gave her a small sense of confidence. As well as giving her a first sense of clarity since being dead. This was her territory and if she were honest, her home.

The short female waving Sen over was easily spotted and he quickly changed the wandering trajectory of his feet towards her vicinity. Looking her over curiously he smiled a little.
It lacked his usual smarmy vibe and came off much more relaxed. He wasn't here to impress anyone after all. Just to help with the plants and get the kind of therapy that only foliage could provide him with. He spent his time being a charming but obnoxious type of person. But behind his wall of confidence and quick-witted charm was a surprisingly insecure young man. And that part of him sought solace here.
Focusing on the woman before him he grinned and greeted her with a playful salute. She was cute in reserved way only shy chicks could manage. He’d always found the quiet girls endearing. Mostly because it was the mousey girls who had befriended him as a child. However they were also the type he enjoyed teasing the most. Even more so than the first ones. But for now he would be a little less precocious. But only a little.
Laughing he tilted his head down a bit so he could look her in the eyes some what. “Well no one informed me we were growing new flowers out here. I'm afraid you won't fit in my vase so I guess I'll just have to come by more often instead.” He chuckled warmly as he showed his hands in his pockets and rocked back on his heels a bit as he smiled playfully at her.

He was definitely a new face to her, that was for certain, but as Rayen assessed his work clothes, the man looked as though he had worked in the gardens nearly as long as she had. Or possibly less, who was to know? Still, his demeanor left her at ease, the chuckle was infectious as she found herself smiling in turn. Though a little more uneasy.
"New flowers, no entiendo," she piped. Whatever joke he made was completely lost on her. "Any flowers that would be out here would most likely be weeds posing as such," she tilted her head, "unless they've created a new flower plot just now."
"But," Rayen continued," if you're not too busy, would you mind helping me with this patch here? If you were heading inside, I promise it won't take long, it's just.. Some of the land here is rather coarse and needs to be cultivated carefully. There's too much growth and not enough breathing space..."

Oh how cute, she had no idea he'd been hitting on her. Ah that kind of naiveté was just adorable. Sen almost couldn't resist, but for now he'd keep it low key, he was out with the plants after all and being out in the gardens kind of dampened his usual mannerisms into something much more gentlemanly and humble. Not completely but it was easy to get taken in by the sights, smells and sounds just as easily as the ladies.
So instead of saying anything else he let her go on, explaining that she needed some assistance. "Oh well I've no plans on heading in just yet, I actually came this way to give ya a hand if you needed one." he explained as he patted his gloved hands together appreciatively. Pun intended. "Just tell me where you want things moved and how much and I'll be more than happy to help." His gardening skills were lacking. New York city wasn't the bet place to grow a garden though he had grown some herbs and flower in his apartment windows. The heavy stuff he'd done back home was still ingrained into him but past the basics he was pretty green so he was more than happy to let the cute flower girl lead him along.

Warmly, Rayen patted the soft earth near her, turning her attention back to the small hole she was digging through with her gloved hands. She wasn't used to giving much directions let alone having to teach someone what to do. She usually just did her own thing or listened to others give orders. Normally, there would be a list of things to do near the many sheds littered across the Chysanthemum fields, any tasks already completed would have the Gardener's personal initial left and that'd be that.
Scratching her head, trying to think of where to start--and not minding the flakes of soil mingling into her curls from the gesture--Rayen drawled slowly. "Well, to begin, you see what I'm doing here?" She gestured to the earth beneath her, and pointed to a cluster of chysanethemums growing from what looked to be the same spot, "I'm breaking the earth around here so the flowers and bloom and flourish without clustering together or else...they won't grow as high. " Rayen finished, pulling a few flowers from the root up and putting it into the spot she was just digging into awhile ago.
