One of the things Iris always appreciated about living in HQ was that there were always excellent spots to people watch. She could sit in the middle of the dining hall and never get bored. Hundreds of conversations and people moving in and out of the area at any given time meant that she could sit and listen in silence.
And so she did. With a plate of half eaten food in front of her and a small paperback book in her hands, Iris listened to the chatter. For her, it was calming. After a week of carrying out reaping orders and filling out monotonous paperwork she needed the white noise. She enjoyed listening in on the pointless small talk and harmless gossip. A whole range of situations played themselves out in the hall. Friends and lovers had arguments. Newbies nervously tried to figure out where to sit. Veteran apprentices aired out their grievances. Occasionally she would glance up at her book and scan her surroundings. She would stare when she saw someone interesting, rarely bothering to glance away if they made eye contact.
She flipped through the pages of her book lackadaisically. She had already read this one before, simply taking it for something else to do while she sat. Iris also found that people tended not to bother her too much if they thought she was reading. This afforded her a few empty seats at her side. Just in case, she stuffed her jacket and a small stack of books in one of the chairs. Perhaps it was a bit rude to take up room she didn’t need, but it wasn’t as if there was a lack of seating in the hall.
Tucking a short stray hair behind her ear, she turned another page.

Crowded places were great for relaxing. Sen could zone out easily behind a sketchbook in the noise. The noisy home of his youth had been great, Places to go things to see and do and plenty of people to chat with if he felt the need to do so. Sometimes he sat alone, sometimes he dropped in unsuspecting diners to join them it all depended on his mood. And today as he maneuvered his way through the area and sat down he lucked out.
There was a female apprentice he'd seen a few times here and there. Steely-eyed and gorgeous, His favorite. She was siting alone and had the nerve to drape her jacket in a chair to keep anyone from joining. It was like a subtle invitation to join for his warped mind. There was something so enticing about taking a seat someplace he wasn't wanted. He stayed away a bit watching her from another nearby seat before deciding she was content enough that his arrival would have the best shock value.
And he did just that. he walked over, and promptly moved the books to the surface before them and then sat right down. That's right. He sat right on the seat she'd tried to hide and then had the gall to not even look at her as he waved a waitress over with a smug grin on his face. He just loved being devious.

Iris felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise. She always felt a sort of uncomfortable heat on the surface of her skin when someone approached her. She could see the figure in her peripherals. All she could make out longish dark hair and perhaps an olive-y skin tone, not really enough to establish this person’s intentions. Either way she knew this was a stranger. Anyone that knew her well enough thought better than to place themselves beside her without asking, or at the very least warning her. For her, being in close proximity to a stranger was...unfavorable to say the least.
Her expression was no more still than usual, but her shoulders tensed a bit. The grip on her book tightened slightly, but she turned the page in the same relaxed manner. She did, of course, wonder who this person was and what they wanted. It could have been a handful of likely possibilities.
Perhaps they couldn’t find another spot? No that couldn’t be it. In the unlikely event that all space was taken, any polite or mildly considerate person would ask if the chair was available.
Did they know her? Unlikely. Iris interacted with few people, all too dissimilar from the vague figure that sat at her table. Plus the faint smell of cologne was unfamiliar.
Were they trying to befriend her? God she hoped not. Making new acquaintances was exhausting for her. Let alone new friends.
After a few minutes of silence, Iris finally put down her book and decided to look up at her unexpected guest. She didn’t say anything of course. Just starred.

Sen could see her reactions to his encroaching presence out of the corner of his eye. It was everything he'd imagined. Nothing over the top of course that would be too easy. No, instead her posture shifted and she continued to look increasingly bothered. Meanwhile he rested in his seat, completely at ease, His drink was ordered and he was here fr the long haul. He thought she might try to get up and leave but she stayed put, obviously trying to gauge his intentions, And finally she couldn't take it any longer and put that book down and turned to stare dead at him.
He waited of course to look her way, dragging it out just a little longer. Slowly he did turn to look her way though, light blue eyes studying her as a smug looking smirk lingered on his lips. She was even more stunning up close. He flicked his gaze to her book and back to her the smile on his face never leaving. It was such a shame there were people out there who found certain races undesirable for the most petty reasons. They were missing out. His drink arrived before he could speak so for a second his attention was diverted but it returned immediately and he finally said something. " 'Sup babe~" He greeted cheekily.

‘Bold .’ She thought to herself as she stared at the smug man. He was now waiting for his drink, seeming completely at ease despite the possibility that he was irritating another. Iris herself was more surprised than annoyed. Sure she was annoyed as well, but her constant silence and tendency to stare usually provided her with a comfortable shield from these types of situations. People instinctively kept their distance from her, knowing she was not the type to welcome company.
She wondered then, what type of man this must be to ignore the very obvious signs that she wanted to be left alone. She suspected he would be quite abrasive. Cocky undoubtedly. He even took his time to meet her gaze. An act that made Iris narrow hers a little. Not in anger, but in acute curiosity. It wasn’t until he opened his mouth to great her that she was sure about the general type of person she was dealing with. This made the encounter all the more unexpected and terribly unpleasant.
The word “babe” made her lip twitch involuntarily. Like nails on a chalkboard or the scraping of metal and gravel, the word stung her ears and made her spine shiver. Irritation was now slowly beginning to overtake her curiosity.
“What do you want?” She asked coolly. She wouldn’t mince words. Subtly obviously neither party’s strong point.
((OCC: Sorry I was away longer than I thought I'd be (╥_╥) ))

Sen simply grinned at her cold response. Babe was his general way of addressing women, Depending on the type and all that but it was his go to. But it seemed women reacted differently to it. So much fun. some were prone to flirt at such an advance, others looked embarrassed or flustered and of course there was the ones who seemed ot get angry. and then the annoyed group was probably the most common. it was fun though, seeing how each reaction was different from one to he next. A social experiment.
"Oh you know, the usual. Hello's, and how are ya's maybe some light chit chat, swap some scar stories, share our death moments. Meaning I just wanna talk, you look like you have a story to tell and I'm a pretty good listener." The shorter man didn't seem the least bit bothered by her cool demeanor. if anything he might be enjoying it. "Also you look like you could make pretty quick work of me if you wanted and I have to say, there's something terribly alluring about sitting face to face with a lethal weapon." He leaned back and grinned boyishly at her as he slipped his hands behind his head. Precocious? Yes, yes he was. Was he lying? Possibly but he gave her little to nothing to go on if he was.
((Ahh it's cool bro, no worries~ OuO ))

She scowled a little. “Hello. I was doing better before. I don’t like chit chat. None of your business. I died when my heart stopped.” Iris casually rattled off the answers to all of the subjects he had listed, counting them on her fingers. “Satisfactory?” She turned back to him, raising an arched eyebrow. She of course knew this wouldn’t be. He seemed unnaturally determined and confident. This disturbed her the most. He’d be hard to get rid of.
Iris slightly drifted off as he continued to talk. It didn’t seem like she’d have to give him her full attention to guess the gist of his words. It all seemed to be a mixture of greasy flattery and overly confident advances. She could tell he was thoroughly satisfied with himself. Was he playing some sort of game? If he was, she was missing the part that was supposed to be fun.
“I can promise you that you are perfectly safe from any kind of physical contact with me.” She said letting out a deep tired sigh. “If that’s what you’re after, you’re better off looking elsewhere.”

How cute. His mouth tugged up higher on one side at her responses. So much fun. He looked like a kid in a candy store as he idly tipped his chair back and forth, flirting with disaster. Her posture was giving off every warning sign to stay away and leave her alone. But he ignored those baser instincts to remain where he was, smiling impishly as she finished up her promises and veiled threats.
Now it was his turn and he sat forward, rubbing at his chin as if he needed to think about what to say. He reached a decision and glanced sly;y in her direction once more. "Oh you know, while I don't mind the occasional romp I find conversation equally stimulating. But you don't want either. What's a guy to do eh?" His tone was playful, teasing and smooth and he shrugged his shoulders as if he were genuinely at a loss. He'd played this game too many times but no one was exactly the same. Women were just fabulous, whether they were glaring daggers or screaming his name.
After he finished he pulled a sketchbook out and fished a pencil he'd hid in his hair and brought it to the page and began sketching "Well maybe we can start at the basics. You got a name? Or do I get to keep calling you babe? I'm Sen by the way. Also, you have a favorite color or I guess we should go with what you hate." He paused mid sketch to look up and smile impishly once more.

Her expression was one of grimace as he continued on. For a moment she thought he actually would give up and leave. Though she hadn’t spoken much, interaction with him was already proving to be quite mentally draining. She didn’t even speak this much to people she actually liked. She much preferred a comfortable silence while they spoke to others rather than someone trying to engage her in conversation. When he shrugged his shoulders, she thought perhaps he was beginning to rethink his attempt to pry into her life. Instead, to her silent horror, he pulled out a pencil and sketchbook. Her eyes actually widened a little.
“What are you doing?” She asked, ignoring his question. Watching his pencil move back and forth on the page as he spoke. She wasn’t planning on answering any of his questions anyways. Why would she give out any personal information to a strangers? Especially when said stranger only seemed interested in this cruel form of mental torture.
"Whatever that is..." Iris frowned, gesturing at his paper. "Don't. I don't think I've been clear. I'm not interested in whatever this is. I won't be doing this little song and dance. Not for your entertainment and certainly not to be some subject of interest. If you're playing a game, I won't be a part of it. It's not worth the time." She spoke to him in an even calm tone, though one could only assume she was fed up. She picked her book back up, found the page she had left off on, and turned her gaze away from him.

Sen just went back to lazily sketching glancing her way occasionally as he did so. The slight look of surprise was well received and wasted no time correcting her on one point. "Oh no, there's no game here babe." He insisted lightly, completely unphazed by her stoic attitude but seemed almost serious for a moment before it faded back to his childish grin. She was as hard as stone. he could dig that. Rocks couldn't be broken but they could be shined. She returned to her book and he fell silent as well, scratching away at his sketchbook with a good deal of focus. While a goofball at heart when it came to his passions there was no play involved once he got the ball rolling. Occasionally he'd look her way but most of his time was spent drawing. Sometimes he'd tilt his head one way or the other and before returning to his previous position. Eventually he stopped everything but the pencil scratching and that was what he was doing now. Scribbling away like he was alone and not occupying someone's personal space.

She shuddered when he used the word “babe” again. The title not sitting well with her at all. Nevertheless she attempted to ignore him, though that was proving to be harder for her than usually. Iris was a master at disregarding people. Cold shoulders were something of a specialty. However, the scratching of his pencil and his refusal to leave the seat next to hers made the task difficult. She could feel him looking at her, clenching her teeth when he would begin to draw again. This “Sen” person was so incredibly frustrating.
With every passing minute the scribbling of lead on paper was becoming akin to a fly buzzing in her ear. It was distracting and irritating, so much so it was making it hard to concentrate. She kept having to reread the same paragraph, unable to move on to the next page for about ten minutes. She would have left for her room, but that felt like conceding defeat and she was much too prideful for that.
Finally after a long silence, she let out yet another drawn out sigh. She snapped her book shut. “If it’s not a game then what is it?” She questioned, not looking at him, instead half focusing on a conversation going on a few tables away to help calm her.

Sen would continue to use babe until she gave him something else to address her with, He hated to chance Ma'am or Miss or heaven forbid Mrs. He could never tell what one would prefer most of the time so he usually avoided those unless they were older women who we're used to Ma'am. The sound of her book slapping shut drew him out of his slight trance. His blue eyes flicked up to regard her innocently. All for show of course as his mischievous grin peeked out to say hello. "Well well, for someone who didn't care about it and didn't want any part of it you sure are curious."
His tone was teasing as he twirled his pencil between his fingers idly, watching her reactions with the sharp-eyed focus of a hawk. He just loved this part of meeting people. "Hm but I guess since you're just dying to know, this isn't a game as I said. It's.. hmm business." His voice adopted a less jovial tune this time around, much more calm and more mannerly. He was serious after all even if a playful smirk toyed at the end of his lips. One hand's fingers drummed against his sketchbook as if he was toying with the idea of sharing what he'd made and then decided against it. Such a tease.

“Business?” She repeated after him, an eyebrow raised and a scowl on her lips. She didn’t know what he meant by business and something told her she probably wouldn’t care for it if she found out. So far she didn’t like anything the man had said. He seemed to be enjoying himself just fine, but for Iris this was only turning her mood more sour than usual. Intense feelings of any sort were unusual. She didn’t really passionately dislike much, but this Sen character was starting to make himself onto that this.
“And what business is that?” Iris hissed slightly. Her annoyance involuntarily slipping. Her personal space was being invaded and one of the few pleasures she took in her status as dead had been rudely interrupted. She could exert little effort into maintaining her calm disposition.

"Business." Sen replied with an amused grin. He could almost envision a fed-up meter as he watched her slowly get more and more irritated. For someone who'd seemed so in control she sure seemed to be losing it. But then, he seemed to have that effect on a lot of people. Hmm he wondered why.
His fingers danced along his sketchbook as he finally opened his mouth to respond in a way that was cyrptic. "Do you wanna ruin the surprise babe? Or do you want it now? and by now I mean the rough version cause I can't promise any good quality right here and now."

Babe. There was that word again. By now hearing it was like a stab in the temple with a dull knife. She wasn’t sure when she had last felt this level of annoyance. She distinctly thought of when Oliver Henley kept kicking the back of her seat in the second grade and she “accidentally” dropped her book bag full of fourth grade level library books onto his right foot. Unfortunately she didn’t have her hardback copy of Shel Silverstein's A Light in the Attic to drop on her current harasser’s toes. Though imagining it brought her some reprieve.
“Evans.” She sighed, giving in just an inch in the hopes she would never have to hear the word babe again. “Just...call me Evans.” She tried to ignore the innuendo and riddles that came after, though this time she visibly frowned. Another slow painful death was seriously becoming an option.
“Are you going to show me the damn sketchbook or not?” She raised a sharp eyebrow at him. She was still quite curious as to what he had been scribbling at. Though she would only admit this internally. She had not intention of adding any more fuel to this man’s fire. Not that it seemed he needed any help in that department.
