Tonight was turning out alright. The Caterer has been apprehensive; there were many things that could go astray over the course of the evening. Granted, if anyone discovered who he truly was and recognized him, he'd roll with it, of course. He'd be leaving an alarming amount of assets behind... but that just made for a new adventure, right? And the Caterer was always up for new adventures.
A major contribution to the "alright" factor was the lovely lady on his arm at the moment. He could only hope he had improved her time at the party, and it seemed so. She looked quite content and happy compared to when he had first approached her at the gambling tables. Penny, she had said her name was. Very pretty, and he had told her so. A compliment contained was a compliment wasted, notto mention an insult.
They had departed the dance floor elegantly, though the beat of the music clung to his toes, urging him to dance. That Caterer smiled and thought: not today, sweet feet. Not today. Today he would escort this young lady to the bar, and buy her a drink.
Arriving at their destination, he smiled at the girl. "I hope you don't mind settling for a polished bar. I'd much rather share some wine with you over a candle-lit table, but it seems its not in our stars." He confessed the latter with pleasant humor, a hand sneaking up to scratch his jaw (embarrassingly in time to the music). "They do have good drinks here, I'm sure of it." A caterer knew his competition and companions, and this caterer in particular knew better than most.
The Caterer pulled out a bar stool for Penny with a grand flourish and a wink. "My lady."

Penelope wasn't in the best of moods on a good day (you could never tell due to her faint smile) but she was ticked today. Penelope always struggled to hold onto what little happiness she gleamed thus she treasured it. Being at the bar gave her a small piece of happiness and when Clement came in then blatantly disrespected her in front of others forcing her to leave her little happiness behind due to embarrassment; Clement jumped right up to the top of her kill list.
However for the time being, all of that was behind her as she was swept across the floor by a gentleman who was escorting her to the bar for a drink. Her spirits started to slowly rise as her happiness returned to "acceptable" levels. "I don't mind a polished bar at all, I think they are quite charming." Penny blushes at the idea of a candle lit table. "I look forward to that drink."
"Thank you sir~." She takes a seat while taking care to not sit on her wig and smiles. "I really like the atmosphere here."

"It is different, isn't it?" The Caterer smiled as he pulled a chair out for himself.
Beckoning the bartender over with a graceful wave, he turned to the lady. "What would you like to drink, my dear?"
In that strange way of his, he retained his good posture while looking relaxed and unconcerned. Truthfully he was on alert for any possible...problems. The handkerchief he wore was for a reason, but it didn't stop full recognition of those who shouldn't be at this party on the first place.
He returned his gaze to the lady across from him. Penny, hmm? Interesting. What did he know about Penny's and pennies and Pene's and Penelope's...oh. Oh yes, one name registered. It had been mentioned to him by a...bad cook, once. He wondered if this girl was the same girl. Still, it was of no matter to him, and he let the realization roll off his back like drops of rain on a raincoat.

"It is and it's lovely." Penny blushed then turned her attention to the waiter a bit flustered at how she almost ignored them. "Oh I would like whiskey and a bit of honey please. Is that okay?" Penny looks at the cateter with a shy smile, she didn't want to assume since the drink was on his dime.
Penny was so embarrassed and pleased to be near such a handsome and kind man. It was so exciting! She felt giddy inside and makes a nervous chuckle. "Um, to be honest I haven't been out often so it's nice to be here with people." She looks at him with a bubbly smile. "Thank you for the dance too! I haven't danced in a long time." She makes a cute face and her blush has creeped up to her nose. She's so cute.

"Of course." The Caterer nodded to her, eyes drifting lazily between the tender and the pretty lady. His eyes settled on her with a fleeting predatory flint, before asking, "Water, if I may. On my tab." The bartender rolled his eyes at the word "water" and went to mix their drinks.
The girl was flushing. How sweet. Like a little lamb, almost. "You should go out more, lass. Give people a chance, and then a second one. It can be fun, once you loosen up." He chuckled low in his chest, "And, they might turn out to be decent dancers." The Caterer crossed his ankles and adjusted his cuff as he added smoothly, "Like you."

Penny waves her hands. "Oh no I'm not decent at all! I-I haven't danced in years. I've gotten rusty because I've no one to dance with anymore .." Chuckling, she rubs her arms. "I love giving folks chances but, hmm, sometimes they don't want to give them to me..." she folds her hands in her lap. "But it's okay you know? I-I'm sure I'll meet more folks who are kind like yourself." She says it but you get the feeling she doesn't fully believe her own words.
Penelope was bundled in herself. She wasn't watching the caterer like she normally would, just barely aware of him in a semi dreamlike state since her mask was close to cracking. She'd let a bit of her guard down. When was the last time she danced? Really danced, without a care...as herself? She can't remember actually. Strange. She smoothes her dress and hopes the mask can hold. She wasn't broken just yet.
