From her bed, Death was looking out at the large bay windows in her room.
It was snowing.
The white fluffy flakes passed by the window, dancing in front of her before they found their resting place below. She could almost imagine the chrysanthemum fields covered in fresh powder with yellow petals stark against the white and the clean pure smell of the snow in the air. It was days like these in which she would love to go out and run around in the ice, like a child in a snow day, with Fran or Inkie in tow. There was something about the cold that she adored. Perhaps it is because she was born in the night. Or perhaps coldness so often signified death.
But no. Not right now. Right now, she can hardly walk or get out of her bed. Right now, she can only watch as the snow fall and take no part in it. The feeling was so familiar it hurt.
The room she was in was covered in flowers. Most of them are from apprentices wishing her well but Fran and Inkie also kept a good supply in. Death herself was in a white, plain dress, the one she is always in, and sitting up on her white-sheeted bed. By her bed side were books, dozens and dozens of them to keep her company. There had been medics here too, attending to her, but she had sent them away for today ("Have a...what do the humans call it...a snow day! Please enjoy the snow for me and tell me about it tomorrow?" She had insisted with a smile). So for right now, she was alone, watching the window, lost in thought.

With a boyish grin Sen walked down the hall, more of a run but he was trying to keep his composure. He'd been in this new home of his for a few years now. Compared to most he was a child but this did not deter him form taking advantage of this new lease on an after life. But in that time he hadn't had a chance to really speak to the lady of the house. And he'd wanted to so very badly. He'd been working on something for her though and had decided that until he'd finished it he wouldn't come see her.
And that day was today. The gift for her was encased in a box that was under his arm and laid snug against his side. He parked himself in front of the door to her room she resided in and hesitated. He knew she was ill and he hated that really. She was way too sweet to be not feeling well. A real shame indeed. But he was here to hopefully lighten her spirits. The message over the radio form a while back had struck a nerve in him. Flowers wren't enough. She needed something she could look at without being reminded of the cycle of life. A gift that would help her forget her sorrows. A gift he felt was a nice representation of the lovely female leader he'd come to adore in an uncharacteristically quiet fashion.

The sound of rushed footsteps coming down the hall snapped her back into attention from the snowing world outside. Someone running? Death paused from her thoughts and turned around to the closed door. She waited for someone to knock or burst through the entrance but a few second ticked by without any sound.
"...Is there a little bird outside my door?" She asked to the guest on the other side. Her voice was quiet, soft and light- obviously affected by weakness with a frailty to it that was a stranger to her lips. Her usual melodic tones struggled to shine through her words. Death smiled irregardless though, tilting her head slightly at her own question while waiting for her guest respond.

Sen was trying to collect himself when he heard a voice from inside. Oh she was awake then? He was a bit hesitant to move at first but finally opened the door slowly. He didn't want to just go rushing in on the off chance that she wasn't ready for company. And even before she stepped completely inside he spoke up.
"Ah it's just me my Lady." His voice was soft and light, amusement coloring his tone as he stepped inside. "Sen." he added realizing he'd missed that in his first utterance. His head finally appeared around the corner, a shy smile on his face as a small sigh of relief passed his lips. She looked good. better than he'd feared but still bad. But he tried to keep this realization off his face and the only visible sign of this was the teething around his slanted eyes.
His parcel sat in one arm resting against his hip but for now the female seated in her bed had his undivided attention. He had no idea if she knew who he even was really. He didn't imagine she could remember every single apprentice in her home. but this was a small matter. The state of the other was far more important. "Hey babe, how's it going? Enjoying the view?" he'd rather not bring up her infirmity unless it was a subject she broached herself..

"Sen." She repeated his name as if she was greeting an old friend. She remembered Sen, of course. It was hard to forget him especially with his personality, but she remembered all her apprentices. They are, as Fate said a long time ago, her children. How can one forget the names of her children?
Death giggled softly at Sen's greeting. It was unusual but it was also refreshing to hear Sen's casualness. Usually she was greeting with intense formality. Especially at her state, as if the formality makes up for her current weakness.
"The view is beautiful, perhaps too beautiful. I can almost feel the snow on my head." She said softly as she briefly glanced back to the window before turning back. "How are you though Sen?" She asked with a smile. "What brings you here to me? I'm afraid I can't help you much right now, but I can try." She had said this all with such brightness that it was hard to tell if it was an act or not.

She did remember him then. Sen was surprised, not overly so but it was nice to be greeted with such warmth despite having barely met the woman. He took a quick moment to look her over now that he was closer. Despite her illness she still seemed like the bright, pure creature he'd met upon dying and coming here. It pained him in ways he couldn't explain to know she wasn't feeling well. Was it the job that endeared him to her so? or was it the fact that someone trusted him with something so delicate. It was terribly hard to discern, so much so that he tried to push the mental conversation away and returned to the present.
The short apprentice followed her gaze to the window and back but held off saying much as she inquired about the random visit. It was probably random to her but it was quite calculated for him. He'd been planning to come see her for a while but wanted to let the well wishing hoards come through and everything quiet down first. And luckily enough he'd found her unhindered and alone. She was such a darling though, asking about him when she was the one who wasn't fairing as well.
He walked a little closer, hovering at the foot of her bed as he grinned. "I'm doing well. This place took a little getting used to but it's become a home I enjoy coming back to." He replied and then gestured to the box in his arms. "And I came to give you a gift My Lady. Consider it a sort of pick-me-up type deal. Also I just thought you might like a little casual company for a bit too." The box was set down, well out of reach but nevertheless it seemed he wasn't ready to give it to her just yet. "But first... did you want some of the snow?" he questioned, liking the idea of scandalously bringing in some of the cold white stuff for her to indulge in. But only if she wished it. Such a foreign feeling to be at the literal beck and call of another if she so much as asked for it.
