The sensation of being pulled into the safety of the HQ was always strange no matter how often she did it. She'd gone ahead first and as her feet touched solid ground she looked about for her work mate.
The reap had gone well, as well as one could go anyway. But there had been someone watching them. Even now she could still feel the chill of eyes on her person. Hopefully whoever it was hadn't tried to follow them or worse hurt the guy she'd been with. It was certainly a terrifying thought and she clasped her hands in hope that he'd show up. She'd feel so guilty if he didn't. More than guilty, she'd feel responsible.

As Sienna just exited the portal, Jonathan followed, facing the hallway they just escaped from, sword in hand. It could just had been rats or another animal that were there, but it doesn't hurt to be cautious. After all, in this job, being careless is often the sign of a short second life. The portal stood there for an instant and then, in the blinking of an eye, it was gone. Jonathan, feeling the danger was gone, let out his breathe slowly before putting his sword away. Another successful job that went without incident, said to himself. Turning around, Jonathan took a few steps before slightly turning around, looking at Sienna. "Would you assist me in the paperworks, Miss Sienna? It would be appreciated." However, he didn't waited for her to answer as he went directly to the Headquarter's massives front doors and hold one for the young lady.

A wave of relief washed over Sienna as she seen Jonathon walk out of the portal. And he was just as on edge as she was when he showed up, immediately turning his much more imposing weapon on the portal, just in case they were followed. Once the portal closed though she really let her tense shoulders sag. Her reap companion though wasted no time getting back to work and she found that ability to move past such an alarming encounter and into the rest of day quite admirable. And of course she'd help with the paper work. She needed to calm her nerves.
She followed after him quietly, nodding her silent thanks as the door was held open for her. She slipped inside and waited for him and then she'd trail closely behind once he did. Following was just easier for her.

As the giant door slowly creaked on its hinges and ultimately closed with a loud, echoing sound, the french man slowly reached for a sheet of paper that was nicely folded in his vest. With it, a quill and a small inkwell were also recovered. Jonathan walked at as slow pace, trying to find somewhere they could do their paperwork in peace. Fortunately, the HQ wasn't very crowded, probably because of the so nice temperature outside. I didn't matter much to the man. At least, they won't be disturbed much. He walked past two armchairs and a coffee table, set there on the right side of the hallway. He concidered them for a brief moment and decided that they would do. He pulled the chairs closer to the table and showed one to Serena, politely asking her if she would take place there.

It wasn't nearly as crowded inside as it was usually. The HQ was expansive and with so many nook and crannies everywhere it was normal for some places to be less empty or more full occasionally. Continuing to follow his lead she stayed relatively close before finally standing near the chairs he mentioned and then sat down. How much would need to be done was the question now. "So um. how much?" She asked looking to him for guidance. She rarely did this.

As soon as he sat down himself, Jonathan wasted no time. He sharpened the quill, dipped the tip in the inkwell and started writing on the paper. After 200 years of nearly daily paperwork, he knew how it worked. The date and the place of the reaping were already writted and drying on the paper when Sienna asked him how much. Without lifting his hand nor his eyes from the paper as he continued his writing, Jonathan answered: " How much what?" He spoke like it was a casual question, not an ounce of anger nor dissapoinment in his tone. It really was a genuine question. He lifted his quill and blowed on the paper for the ink to dry faster, then resumed his work. At one moment tho, his quill stopped moving and hovered over the paper for a moment. "What was your last name again, Miss Sienna?" he asked wihout looking at her.

He was just lumbering forward at his own pace and even seated the maid couldn't keep up with him. Sienna was going to answer the question but she was interrupted before she could open her mouth by another one. "Oh it's Stevenson." She replied with a nod and hesitantly grabbed some of the paperwork and pulled out her own pen and began filling ti out. anything she found confusing she'd ask about later but for now she was fine, working in mostly silence with the stoic man. Which was a nice change of pace from her usual companions.

Sienna answered him, and he nooded in response. He dipped the quill in the inkwell again before resuming his work. In no time, While he was signing, he noticed that his co-reaper started to do their own copy of the paperwork. He slightly shook his head. "You don't need to do a copy. As long as there's one paper that shows both of us were there and did the job correctly, it's all right." That said, he dip the quill into the the ink one last time before offering it to Sienna. "The only thing that's left on this is your signature." While he was holding the quill, he took a quick peek at what she had done so far on her paper. Not much, she probably wasn't used to it then. Maybe she would need an example? "Before singing it, you should take a good look at it." With a finger, he dragged Sienna's copy to hand reach, but he didn't picked it up. He instead showed some errors that he noticed and pushed the sheet back to her. "You should be more careful when doing these. After all, they're the extension of our work."

Sienna nodded once again unsure what to do with her paper now that it was necessary. As the other was slid towards her she spotted the empty place for her own name. His handwriting was beautiful. All flowing and consistent. Hers had never been that good to begin with. Although giving her time period and station that fact that she had known how to write and read had been a miracle in itself. Turning back to her suddenly school teacher she nodded, taking note of his marks and what was right and what wasn't. She nodded mutely once more at his insistence that she be more careful with the paperwork. Her reap orders were few and far in between and she usually went with someone and they usually did the paperwork depending on who it was. So this was a nice change of pace really.

As soon as Sienna lifted her pen from her signature, he quickly slides the piece of paper with a single finger, careful to not touch any of the still wet ink. He the started to fan over it with the book he was reading back there, hoping the ink would dry faster that way. After a while, he stopped and leaned back into the armchair. "Miss Stevenson, may I ask you a question?" Jonathan asked, still looking at the paper as the ink is completely absorbed by the paper. However, he didn't waited for her respond and asked it anyway: "If I wasn't there with you back there, would you had been able to complete the order?" There was a short pause before he continued: "I'm not judging you. It's an honest question." He turned his head, his Steel-colored eyes looking directly in hers.

Sienna let him take the paper, her hands dropped to her lap where she waited. The sounds of him fanning the paper subsided and at the question her head snapped up and for the briefest moment her eyes locked with his. And then they dropped back down once again. Could she have? Her mind slowly turned back to that moment, when she'd allowed him to take care of it, allowing her to just hover nearby, offering support. So, if she'd been alone would she have been capable of dealing with that reap order.
"Yes." She replied after a long stretch of silence. Even though she wasn't looking at him anymore she could still feel his eyes on her. "It would've b-been hard but... I c-could've. It w-would've been worse for t-them if I couldn't." Her voice was soft and forlorn but there was a glimmer of confidence in there. She knew it was hard but if she didn't... they'd have suffered. And she hated to be the reason for suffering.

While he was listening to her answer, he took the piece of paper and neatly folded it before putting it away. He then leaned back into the armchair, resting his feet on a footstool and crossed his arms over his stomach and locking his gaze on an invisible spot on the ceiling. "I remember, a long time ago, when I was y..." He stopped himself for a brief instant, then resumed: ".... when I was "freshly departed", one of the first things my mentor told me about being an Apprentice was that it will be hard at first, sometimes very hard. He also told me that the more numb you're gonna become about it, the more you're gonna hate yourself for it, but it's up to you to decide . I wasn't sure what he meant by that back then, but I realised it soon enough...." His last sentence trailed off like he had his head in the clouds, but he turned his head and looked at Sienna: "I decided that I didn't deserved this hate of what I've became. Even if they were once people I knew, or just an unfair reap, I wasn't part of their world anymore. I became a technician that worked behind the scene to make sure everything runs smoothly, and as such I deserved some self-respect." His gaze drifted back to his invisible ceiling spot as he silently nods to himself.

Seinna flicked her gold eyes to him as he spoke about his own experience. She sat down in a nearby chair since she was curious to hear the story. She said and did nothing while he explained. And she liked this notion. She had been slowly coming to something of a similar nature on her own. It had just taken her over a century to do so.
"I like that." She replied with a small nod. Being one of many small cogs in a machine. She didn't look down on herself because of it no. her issues stemmed simply from being so averse to death and pain. She'd have a potentially hard time harming someone who'd harmed herself at some point. She studied the man closely but respectfully. He seemed the somber type of individual at face value. It wasn't too far fetched to imagine him writhing in anger and frustration.

Jonathan noded to her answer. Sienna felt the same way as him, which was good of course. A few seconds passed with him staring at the ceiling before he realised she was still by his side. He let out a small chuckle: "But look at me, rambling and dozing off while you might have other tasks to do. I'm sorry about this, I won't hold you any longer." He pushed the footstool with a foot and got up. "Do not worry for the paperwork, I'll make sure it will go to the right place." he added, lightly tapping the pocket where he stored the piece of paper. On that note, good day Miss Sienna."
He was about to leave when he stopped and hold a finger to himself. "Before I go, we might have received something at your likings in the library's inventory. You do like puzzles and riddles, right?" He picked his cellphone from his pocket and looked at something, scrolling with his finger. "The library shouldn't be too crowded at this hour, would you like to go there and check it out?"

Sienna stayed where she was as Jonathan looked upwards. Most people might have taken that silence as an okay to leave but her background forced her to stay until formal parting words were said or at least alluded to. So one he came to and seen her standing there she blinked, her demeanor quiet and curious as he chuckled and apologized for holding her up.
Not that her work was going anywhere or that she had so little time to not get it done. But the concern was appreciated still. He said goodbye and she nodded her own and was ready to head out when he brought up a topic that had her looking very curious. Puzzles? The library? How could she say no to that? she was surprised though and blinked a few times before nodding, a small smile gracing her usually dour face. "I would, t-thank you." She replied softly but looked eager enough to get there. She loved puzzles~
