He'd been staring off into space, daydreaming when a child ran past him. It jarred him out of his daydream, and he scowled a little when the child said to stop apologizing.
But it was only polite to apologize, and his thoughts were echoed by a tall asian man who strode after the boy. Oh, there were people who remembered their manners. How delightful.
He couldn't quite blame the boy for thinking that way when he noticed that they were threadless, though. Unless the humans were spiritually-aware, there was no way anyone would be able to see them. Assuming they were Hunters (the tall man looked like he could be one), Stanley rose from his seat and weaved through the crowd after the duo.
Maybe he could get to know them? Maybe they lived somewhere nearby to him? Having neighbors can't hurt.
------
[HAHAHAHA naw he's not lost ouo he's just exploring the underground railroads, taking trains here and there to see where they lead. Though the comment about Whitechapel being 20 mins away DOES mean I should've done more research, I was under the assumption that it was farther away uuu ;; v ;; thanks for the info!! ]

When Heng finally came over to him at the ticket machine Walter stopped hopping around, pulling out his oyster card with something that could remind of a serious expression. “Right. Now the machine is not going to be as merciful as the crowds with letting us through which is why I have bothered to get this thing. The machines do not like letting anyone pass without one.” He waved with the card from earlier. “Regardless if they are dead or alive.” “Here is how you use it: Scan it and walk through.” Walter walked up to the machine that showed a green arrow on a screen, practically slapped the card over a yellow circle with a worn out white rectangle that once was a proper image of a card, and walked through the little gate as it opened. “See it's real easy! Just let me reset the card so it will let you through.” He repeated the process of scanning the card, but on a machine that showed a red x on Heng's side and had people passing through the other way and without following them out the gate himself. “Catch!” He yelled and tossed the card towards Heng. ------------ ((Ah, 20 min by tube/railway away, so he is a decent distance from home seeing 10 min of transport is roughly a 30 min walk. No worries though, I don't live there either I just spend too much time looking things up, and tried my hand at the colorful spaghetti mess of a tube map when I was on holidays so I just assumed Stanley was lost from where he is since he'd have to make a change of trains somewhere.))

Heng watched the child attentively, though his hand was now resting on his the staff of his Ji.
"How does the machine know when someone has passed it?" he asked just as the child yelled "Catch!" and flung a card at him.
He blinked, and reached out with his free hand, snatching it from the air. Well, it seems that his quick reflexes remained the same throughout his two thousand ish years of being dead.
"Thank you," he said flatly, turning it over in his hand to look at it. "I just... put it over the yellow circle?" he asked as he tentatively put it on, on the wrong side.
Why must this be so difficult.

“The other way. No, not - Flip the card!” Walter knew Heng was old, but now he was seriously wondering just how old a person had to be to not understand scan and enter.
“No, what are you doing? You have to hold it still over the yellow part until the gate opens!” Embarrassingly slow was what he was, Walter thought to himself as Heng clogged up the flow of the crowd, sending annoyed Londoners in a fan around him to the other gates.

The Hunter wondered what was taking so long. The child on the other side of the gates looked like he was experiencing second-hand embarrassment from how long it was taking the asian man to get through, and Stanley himself had taken to turning his card this way and that while waiting. Well, at least up till now.
The machine beeped in the negatory when Heng failed to get past the gate, and Stanley sighed. He muttered a small 'excuse me', stepping aside so Heng could see him. Reaching out, he pushed the card back on the circle while it was still in Heng's grip and held it there for a moment longer.
With a satisfactory beep, the gate opened to admit the Guardian. Pulling his hand away, Stanley motioned to the gate with one hand,
"After you, sir." he smiled behind his mask before resuming his position behind Heng, "It wouldn't do to keep the crowd waiting..."

Heng took the card back, dipping his head in a nod.
"Thank you," he said, straightening back up.
There. That feeling again.
Heng turned to look at the Child, and walked through the gates.
"Here is your Clam card back. I am sorry for taking so long," he said, handing it back. He looked back once, observing the stranger in a quick glance.
Threadless. If so, then he too knew that Heng and the Child were dead. Heng's grip tightened on his Ji as he put a hand behind the child's back, ushering him forward.

The man was cautious. Not that Stanley could blame him for acting he way he does. Stanley WAS alone, and there was really no way of telling whose side he was on without outright asking. He eyed the long weapon on the asian man's person, his sneer hidden by his mask.
If he had to guess, the duo before him were Apprentices. It was rare to see children as Hunters, and if there was one, that kid had to be one sick sonovagun. Heng though... He was a man who had seen much, and if his stance was any indication, he stood on the battlefield far too many times to count.
Just like 'that thing'.
Stanley was brought back to reality when he looked down at his hands, at his Clam card. Oh right, he was gonna join them on their joyride. Holding the card to the circle, he waited for it to beep before tucking it away and striding after the threadless duo.
His cane tapped rhythmically to his steps as Stanley pat his inner breast pocket to make sure his card didn't slip out, then pat his side, over a holster under his coat where his spade was. To anyone who didn't know him any better, Stanley may well be looking for his wallet.
With a satisfied hum, the englishman trailed after the two. Perhaps he could open up a conversation...? He didn't quite feel like it, but if it meant he could confirm a few things, perhaps he should...
"Excuse me!" He called out a little louder to the two, "Threadless!" he'd caught up to Heng and Walter relatively quickly and paused to catch his breath (even if he didn't need to), "Off on a reap order, are you?" he asked amiably, slipping his free hand into his pocket, "You don't suppose I can join you, do you? I've... lost my friend a few stations back."
It was half a lie. He lost Penelope several times while taking buses here and there, much to the smaller Hunter's annoyance and the event had happened quite some time back, not that Heng and Walter needed to know that, "She said she was heading back and I thought I'd stick around a bit longer... So what say you?" he looked at both Heng and Walter, drumming his fingers lightly on his cane, "Safety in numbers, as they say..."

“It's an oyster-” Walter attempted on correcting Heng, but found himself ushered towards the nearest platform exit which he corrected instead as it was the jubelee line, not bakerloo which they were getting on. What was the sudden rush all about? Maybe he had realized how embarrassingly old he came across as....
When someone called out from behind, the man who had helped Heng earlier, Walter slowed down to a stop to let the man catch up. it wasn't every day people blurted out that they could see the dead. He lifted an eyebrow at the request. Loosing people was easy enough if you weren't used to the clockwork system of getting on and off in time, as well as most phones didn't have signal down in the tunnels meaning calling people were useless. Waterloo also was a rather central station with connections to both the tube and rail so the man could have come from anywhere.
However, going by the accent the man was obviously a Londoner, a dead one judging from the lack of thread, not to mention that someone who had their own Oyster card would be perfectly accustomed to a quick turnaround and if missing someone get to a place with a signal. Like the overground part of the station where he had come from, so the whole thing was very curious. For a brief second Walter had a mischievous smirk on his face before replacing it with an innocent childish smile. Who was this man? Apprentice? Spiritual human? Hunter? It was game time.
“Why, yes of course. We have about an hour still so we'll just take the bakroloo and pop over to the pub to have a cuppa before jumping on the district line to Silver Street.”

Heng frowned briefly at the child when he agreed to the stranger's request. With a sigh, the looked back over at the other Threadless man.
"Safety? Are there dangers here?" Heng asked, scanning the crowd again. It seems that the stranger was alone. He had a bad feeling. Always trust your bad feelings.
Heng kept his hand placed on the younger Apprentice's back, his other shifting to a more easy to draw position away from his Ji.
'Do not approach Hunters', was the rule he had to obey. Unless you need to protect yourself. Heng hoped that it wouldn't come to that. Not all Hunters were inherently violent. He took a breath. Since the Child had already invited the stranger to join them, he had no choice but to agree as well. Let's see where this takes them.
"You are leaving your friend further behind?" he asked, gesturing to the crowds with a jut of his chin. "If that is fine, I am fine with you coming with us as well," he said.

Stanley tilted his head slightly at Heng, raising his brow at the other man, "Of course there's danger. For humans, there's the dangers of being mugged, and for us, it's the danger of bumping into Hunters. Why did you think I decided to flag you down? I'm no good on my own, I'll have you know." He sighed, pocketting his hand and thumbing the top of his cane, "It wasn't my fault that my friend couldn't keep up... At least she could find her way back herself."
Something suddenly clicked when he mulled over the danger topic a little more, "Un... Unless of course, you're a Hunter, then we have ourselves a very awkward situation here..." his voice quavered audibly as he took a small step back. From this distance, he could probably attack Heng with a stab to the chest... ...Naaaah. Leave it for now, Stanley.
He did look a little less wary when Walter allowed him to join them, "Wonderful," he exclaimed quietly before turning his attention to Walter, "The district line...? We can take the underground train all the way to Silver Street Station from here, can't we? The trip shouldn't take too long, unless you wanted to stop by Edgware Road for something..." bringing a hand up to his chin, he wondered if he was remembering things correctly.
The main reason he got the card to begin with was because the travelling time was convenient compared to a taxi, a bus or just plain walking... On top of that, it didn't feel like he ever left the Whitechapel district during the time he spent alive. Maybe he simply wasn't the type to travel much? (Not that he used his card much here either, he only knew one or two of the lines by heart)
Leaving the void that made up much of his memories, Stanley shook his head, "Ah... don't mind me... I've never been very good at remembering these things... You on the other hand seem to know where you're going, and I won't be opposed to a drink." Smiling, Stanley reached up and tapped his hat lightly in acknowledgement, "I'm... Clifford, by the way. 'Cliff' is fine."
Oh, good. His first impulse was to say 'Jack'. The name itself left a rather ugly taste in his mouth.

Why was Penelope in London again? Someone PLEASE remind her.
And yes, when she found Stanley she was gonna punch him in the gut but good!
Currently riding the subway Penelope stared at the poster in front of her with a sneer and tapped her foot impatiently. London was huge and confusing! She told him she didn't know where she was going and for the love of chocolate she thinks she got off at the wrong stop. The bus route was chaos, the subway is horrid, and she left her map in the bathroom. Yep she was gonna start crying soon but not too soon. She sat down in an open seat on the subway train she was riding. She couldn't even remember what number, letter, or whatever of the train she was on. Penelope leans her head back so that it's supported by the window and then she thinks on why she was here.
Stanley had asked her to come along with him for a quick visit and she was excited to go after all she hadn't traveled with anyone since she'd left Death's HQ and honestly thought that this would be a grand adventure. She'd bought a map, new set of clothes, and a SD card so she could take pictures on her phone and have them saved! She was so excited, she even broke her own rule and took a few selfies (Stanley was in a few pictures, too many to his liking) they went on like that for a while but then he'd left her. Wasn't on purpose, she was sure, however they'd changed buses and routes so much and because she was so short she couldn't keep up with him in the crowd so he left her behind. Penelope groans in disappointment, she wasn't even thinking about Stanley anymore, she was worried about herself. Her map had her directions back but she'd lost it so she was going by pure memory and so far it was failing her. Penelope slides down in the chair a bit more and curses under her breath. Where the heck was she going?
*Ding* Waterloo Station, please watch your step as you exit and enter**
Well, that answered that.

Stanley sneezed while he was in the company of the two Apprentices. A lingering sense of guilt washed over him all of a sudden, and it felt like he'd just experienced a memory lapse all at once. Was his trip with Penelope really... a few weeks ago? ...He was very sure it was... He remembered showing her around Harrod's in London(among the other malls she dragged him into) , remembered the ride to Nottingham, the picture with the Robin Hood statue...
And then...
And then there was that time...
Penelope mentioned wanting a few new outfits and Stanley decided to show her Carnaby Street.
...And that was... several hours ago.
Shit.
He checked his phone, finding that there was no signal. Oh dear. Even if he sent a message now, there was no way it would reach her until he went above ground... Chewing on his lower lip, Stanley snapped his phone closed and tucked it away for now. He'll text an apology to her and directions to get to where he was when they get above ground... Stanley should've known that his guts were right when it protested against him wandering off rather absent-mindedly while Penelope was shopping.
Dammit, Stanley.

True, Edgware Road was on the district line, but Silver Street was not. In fact it was an overground stop almost an hour away so whatever Clifford was he was not someone who went much outside the inner zone of the city. Whatever you are it's definitely not a pathfinder Walter concluded.
“Clifford”'s sneeze mad Walter jump. “Bless you.” He said purely on autopilot, though the man didn't appear to notice, checking his phone.
Nodding towards the Northboud Bakerloo platform he moved backwards to make Heng come along with him. “We'll have to get moving now if we want to catch the next one it's due in two minutes.” Walter was still hungry and he could easily continue his little get-to-know-you game on the tube.

"...Clifford," Heng dipped his head.
He looked to the child, nodding.
"Let us proceed then," he agreed, waiting for Walter to lead the way to... wherever it was they were going.
----------------------- I just had the image of Heng just picking up Walter, putting him under his arm, and hauling ass. idk why but i laughed

Penelope maneuvered her way off of the subway train and grabbed her phone. Penelope searched for a quiet place in the station as to avoid incoming traffic. She spotted a place on her left that was by a newspaper stand. Highly determined Penelope adjusted the bags on her arms before swiftly pushing through the crowd, when she reached the stand Penelope put her bags down by her feet and checked her cellphone.
**0 messages**
Penelope felt a vein bulge in her forehead. Unbelievable. She stuffed her phone back in her pocket, grabbed her bags, then headed up the stairs to wherever the hell she was. Quickly shuffling up the stairs Penelope pushed past the crowd and looked around for an exit. There! Exit 3 and if her eyes weren't deceiving her it had signs for a cab stop! Perfect! Penelope gathered her bags and weaved her way through the crowd, just a little bit more and... oh wait, that smelled delicious. Penelope raised her nose up to the air and took a deep breath. The food smelled wonderful and was right by of the gate she needed to leave through.
Pret a Manger - the sign read. Penelope chewed her bottom lip slightly but gave in as hunger took over. A little bite to eat never hurt. She'll chew Stanley out for leaving her later; besides, food comes first. And if she was lucky she might find someone who would be nice enough to offer assistance. Maybe.
------------ Okay I kinda don't know where you guys are in the station right now, so kinda catch me up a bit please and where are you going? Thank you~
